2 years agoI bought several boxes of the HSM 357 RM, 180 GR LGC for use in my 4.2" barrel SP101. I use these loads when carrying in black bear country. They average 1252 FPS from my SP101 and are very consistent in velocity. Some of my best groups from this revolver have been shot with this load. If you're looking for an accurate, hard hitting load; this one will work.

1 year agoThese loads are weak for the price. Regular target 10mm has more power. Disappointed with my wasted money.

1 year agoMost ammo for my .500 is double the price. Very satisfied with the performance. The kick will make your wrist feel like you've just been in a fight

1 year agoI carry my Ruger GP100 4.2" for security/protection in and near Uintah wilderness. I hike/camp in an area where I have seen, heard Sasquatch (tepee like markers too); they are big and intimidating. I've been growled at, howled at, played with (peek-a-boo) and taunted. Never yet had reason to draw down. However, I am confident this ammo would be persuasive (even the odds) -- against bear, as well. Extremely accurate in my Ruger (.357 Mag). I've also encountered wild dogs in this area. Great functional product!

1 year ago405 grains of lead at 1800fps! I cannot imagine much of anything on the American Continent or most anything in the World that this round wouldn't take. Be prepared though....the recoil from a bench while sighting in is pretty ferocious and I am NOT recoil sensitive at all!

1 year agoHSM lists this load @ 1260 FPS and 1075 FP of energy. The wide flat nose and hard cast lead should be a skull busting and deeply penetrating animal stopper. In my Ruger 5.5" SBC I get just over 1" groups @25 YD off a rest with iron sights consistently with this 305 GRN load. POI at 50 yards appears the same but the big iron sights and my old eyes increase group size big time. Recoil is greater than 240 GRN loads and required a taller front sight blade, which Ruger installed free, to give enough elevation down adjustment. A fine woods defense and close range game load in a gun that weighs only 3 more ounces than my trusted 6" 357 MAG.

1 year agoUsed this load to take a 150 pound black bear in Idaho, a small mule deer in Colorado. Sighting in at bear camp first two shoots went into one hole at one hundred yards bench rested. Left it at that. Bear was dropped in its tracks at thirty yards over bait. Deer was dead on its feet at 98 paces off sticks. Also used this load varmint calling in preparation for my hunts. I'm shooting a Smith and Wesson 8 3/8 barreled .460 from the performance shop. Never had any problem with this ammo only great results!

1 year agoThe revolver loads in this are great. The 10 mm leaves much to be desired. First, they do not use a hardcast bullet, just an FMJ. Second, it is loaded to 1041 ft/s and 481 ft/lbs. That is really a light load for a 10 mm (basically a .40 S&W). Double Tap, Underwood, and Buffalo Bore all load 200 grain hardcasts to approx. 1300 ft/s and approx. 700 ft/lbs.

1 year agoBeware if you own a Henry Big Boy Rifle in .45 Colt it will not cycle. The overall length of the round is slightly longer than a regular .45 Colt round which prevents the lever action from cycling. I had to feed mine in manually with the action open on a single shot capacity. I would advise checking the cycling in your rifle before you throw your receipt away or go hunting in any calibre. Nothing wrong with the performance of the round otherwise. In .45 colt it kicks twice as hard as a regular round but is accurate and goes down range like a laser beam.

1 year agoThis ammunition is for a S&W 500. For what it is the price is low and the performance is high. Well worth your money.

1 year agoI bought a box of the HSM 357 Magnum 180 grain Bear Loads to see how they compared to 180 grain Buffalo Bore heavy Outdoorsman. They have just over half the energy. I fired out of 4" and 2" barrels, It was about 50 degrees today S&W 686 4" barrel HSM - 952 FPS / 362 FPE Buffalo - 1385 FPS / 767 FPE Kimber K6S 2" barrel HSM - 907 FPS / 329 FPE (not bad to shoot) Buffalo - 1214 FPS / 589 FPE (quite uncomfortable) I also chrono'ed Buffalo Boar 38SPL+P Heavy Outdoorsman 158gr in the 2" Kimber. 997 FPS / 349 FPE. This was more energy than the HSM 357. So... I'll spend a little more for Buffalo Bore. But they did go bang.

1 year agobarely over 1000 fps. save your money and get buffalo bore or underwood. if you want these velocities just get a 40 s&w.

1 year agoI've seen two different batches/lots/production runs blow up two guns at one group shoot. I wouldn't shoot this if it were free.
cowboywithanattitude
1 year agoI shoot these in my 1895 Cowboy with 26" barrel and even with the long barrel these loads have one helluva recoil. Dead on at 100 yards with iron sights. I believe these loads in 45-70 will take down pretty much anything on the planet. I have shot Remington loads with this gun and my 30-30 has more recoil than the Remington loads in this rifle.

1 year agoBest product description of any ammo I purchased for personal protection against large game animals. This ammo is reliable and hard hitting. Hang on if your shooting this in a pistol. The rifle ammo pack a mean punch also. Not for the beginning shooter.

1 year agoThese hit like a hammer. I am using a Ruger Black single action lower recoil makes follow up shots relatively easy. Practice a few times and you will see what I mean.

1 year agoI ordered 2 boxes because the pistol ammo shelves are bare everywhere (COVID19), including Cabela's and these are lower cost with heavier loads. The picture looks like they are wad-cutters but what I received was actually fully jacketed. I was going to shelve them for my motorcycle camping trip to Alaska, but I have since gotten in to reloading so my son and I popped them and they were just as smooth (in my Glock 40) as my 155 grain light powder reloads.

1 year agoShopping around and found these at decent prices for CRAZY times and availability. I've used these HSM rounds before in my Marlin 1895 SBL T-Rex rifle. The worked well, grouped well with no issues. Stocking up on .45-70 ammo now, no telling when you can find it again at regular prices. Use the Hornady stuff for deer, practice and everyday use, but use this HSM Bear Load for bear country trips. Hard Hitting, good velocity rounds.

1 year agoI just bought two cases of this ammunition a week ago and just received them. However.. when I bought them online nowhere in the product details does it list the ammo as +P, it list it as just 45-70 GOV’T. When it was delivered I opened it and both boxes have an orange sticker that says 45-70+P. Marlin specifically says in their manual for the 1895 sbl that they don’t recommend firing +P loads in the 1895 sbl. Now I have two cases that I can’t return either that was listed incorrectly on your site! Not only is it wrong to sell something without the full product description but it’s a huge safety concern.

1 year agoThis is my “go to” ammo for blaCk bear hunting. I shoot it in my marlin 1895 and i have never had a misfeed or fail to fiRe with it. Price is reasonable compared with other rounds out theRe. My only issue is that it can be hard to find, so when i do find it i buy several boxes at one time.
