Picked this ammo up after seeing good reviews. When I went to the range to try it out it will not chamber in my rifle

In my life I have shot 7 deer. 5 of them have been with Hornady American whitetail in 270, 130grain. I hunt only for meat so I target doe (mule and whitetail alike.) My favorite aspect of this round is that it stays TOGETHER upon penetration. I have shot ballistic tip and polymer rounds before into deer and the fragmentation did a number on the shoulder section and meat thereafter. These may not be the most accurate out to the longer ranges, but these rounds are designed to flatten out and remain intact which I find is essential for harvesting meat. The closest hit I've made was at 65 yards, and the farthest was at 402 yards. Both were fatal hits that did internal damage without completely eviscerating the animal.
The pricing is also quite good in comparison to other alternatives. I highly recommend Hornady American Whitetail ammunition.

Bought 30-06 in 150 and had the chance to use it on 2 deer this season. Neither one took a step. First one went down immediately and was proper lung and heart shot. Second deer was a bit off from where I would have liked but the buck tightened up when hit, stood for 3 seconds and then toppled sideways. Accurate, great bullet and inexpensive. Got it on sale which was even better.

I started using this ammunition last Fall ( 2016 ). The main thing that I like about is is that it does not waste a lot of meat. I have taken 3 deer with it and although they didn't drop in their tracks, they didn't go very far. ( less than 75 yards ). My previous ammo did put a deer down right in it's tracks but it sure messed up the whole front end on a lung shot. American Whitetail ammo makes a clean kill. I have only used it in 130 gr. so far but I would recommend it 100%. And like all Hornady ammo, it hits where you aim.

Starting using this ammo a couple of seasons ago and 1/2 “ groups at 100yrds with tika 308 And dropped 2 deer in their tracks With neck shots. I have used other brands in the past with ok results but these bullets are awesome with devastating effects like I’ve never seen before.

Ordered 4 boxes from Cabela's online. As much as I love going to the store, it is a bit out of the way for me. Shopping from my couch is great. The shipment arrived promptly.
I bought these for deer hunting in Ontario and so far so good. Extremely accurate, great value for money. Heading up north tomorrow to conduct the real test.....whitetail.

I have used Hornady factory ammo and (handloads) spire point/Interlock bullets in 25-06 (117gr), 30-06 (165gr, 180gr, 190gr), 7mm Rem and 280 Rem (154gr, 162gr), 7mm-08 (139gr and 154gr), 35 Whelen (200gr, 250gr) 300 Win Mag (180gr) over the last 25yrs. I will soon begin testing in factory American Whitetail in 308 Win 165gr SP for this season in a Savage 99. In factory ammo and handloads I have used all the above on elk, moose, deer and bear here in Alberta. I can honestly say that I have had great performance in the bullets and factory ammo all these years. I do try out other ammo and new bullets that come out but I still go back to the Hornady SP/Interlock at least on half my hunts in the fall just due to consistency and reliability.

I recently purchased a marlin XLR 30-30 and put a quality scope on it. Like all my other guns i bought all kinds of brands and grains of ammo. To my surprize some of the expensive shells had very weak accuracy while the american whitetail constantly grouped in the one inch mark. More than happy

Never used this ammo before, when at the end of a range day I realized I had an unopened box of this for my Tikka T3X Lite. (in .308) I'd been shooting okay, but not great, so had low expectations. After firing two rounds at 100 meters I couldn't see any hits, but that turned out to be because I'd put them both right through the middle of the X.
Can't wait to go back and see if it was fluke, but I'm thinking I've found that rifle's favourite ammo.

I have been using Hornady factory ammo and component SP Interlock bullets now for 25+yrs in various calibers that include 25-06, 30-30, 270Win, 280-(162gr handload), 270WSM-(150gr handload), 308Win, 7mm-08, 30-06, 300WSM-(190gr handload), 300WinMag, and 35 Whelen on Whitetail/Mule deer, elk, moose, black bear and Bighorn sheep. To date, in using these bullets and ammo, I have never lost one game animal. I will always be testing new calibers, buying new rifles and testing factory bullets/ammo from all sorts of manufacturers but I tend to go back to the SP Interlock ammo because I have found it to be reliably accurate and has never failed to perform on game. These days there is so much emphasis on weight retention (mushroomed +80% bullet weights) and moaners about jacket core separation but the simple fact is good hunting/stalking skills and bullet placement is 99% of a successful big game harvest. When getting a new rifle/caliber I tend to buy 3-5 boxes of various ammo brands and test them out. But I do find that the Hornady Whitetail and the older Custom ammo is still consistent in accuracy and performance.

I shot a 6x6 elk from 340 yards with a 30-06 with these bullets in 150 grain. He fell quickly, and both shots were pass throughs. However, there was little blood, because I guess they did not expand very much. I assume that they would expand much more for closer shots. Also shot a deer with the same bullets it dropped right there. I recommend these bullets for elk and smaller big game animals.

I use the 180 grains in my Browning X Bolt in 300 win mag. You can literally place each shot in the previous hole with this ammo in my rifle and my buddies 300 win mags in X Bolt as well. Grouped better than the SST ammo horandy offers in this calibre for my rifle.

I use this in my Browning X-Bolt chambered in .270WIN. I'm able to consistently make groups of 1" and less at 100 yards (seated). I've only shot approx. 200 rounds of it but it's consistent in being accurate which is all I'm asking for when shooting at soft skinned deer.

This ammo is very accurate and hold very good groupings but disappointed for hunting. I used them in my 243 and 270.. After shooting two deer I stopped using them, In both calibers I know I hit the deer but there was no blood trail, I did find one deer a short distance away but did not find the second deer I know I hit at 50 yards broadside with a 270. There was no blood trail at all and after several hours of looking never found the deer.

Shot a box out of my 243. 1 1/2" group at 200 yards and could have been tighter if I was a better shooter. A great factory round.

I just bought these this year, .308 165 grain, 2 bullets, 2 bullseyes at 100 yds. Hopefully they drop deer, hopefully find that out soon. 4 stars because I don’t have a ton of experience with them yet

I sighted in a Savage Axis 30-06 with 180 grain, since then I’ve shot a deer and 2 moose. All 3 were taken with one shot.

Pickings are slim for hunting ammo for this particular caliber. Decided to give a box of these a try & I'd say for my set up with a winchester xpr rifle I was able to put 3 out of 4 shots inside a 6 inch shoot and see target. 4th one was human error. I have no worries about the ammo accuracy or performance in the field to take a deer within 300 yards to drop where it stands. Can't wait for the season to start.
