2 years agoThis is a 1/2 MOA rifle for well under 1k. I've shot 2" five round groups at 400 yards with both Federal and Winchester 140gr match ammo. Trigger is decent after adjusting down as low as it will go, which is right around 3lbs. This is a great value for getting into long range shooting.

2 years agoNice solid feel. Lots of adjustments to make it perfect fit. Set up with a Vortex Crossfire scope. Zeroed in at 100yds. Real nice tight patterns.

2 years agoI just bought it but when I got home I fired it like I've used it many times before, like a second pistol

2 years agoI went to Bass Pro to buy this awesome weapon. Walked up and down the counter with three people working it and not a single one of them addressed me. So I went over to Scheels, those people are fantastic at their job and really want to make sure that you get the gun you are looking for. Went and shot it the next day and it was wonderful! So smooth, so accurate, with out even adjusting the sight I bought for it we were nailing 200 yards with ease. I deffinetly recommend this weapon to anyone that likes to shoot, just dont get it at Bass Pro.

2 years agoVery first time I pulled the trigger, MISFIRE! Ended up misfiring about 23% of the time. Apparently the .308 savage bolt is notorious for having issues. Plus the bolt would stick even after oiling every other mag. After 83 rounds the bolt was completely stuck. I had to use a hammer to get it unstuck. Used 3 different brands of ammo too. Obviously the firing pin is having issues.

2 years agoI PURCHASED THE .308 VERSION OF THE savage axis ii NONprecision rifle ON OCTOBER 31ST, 2021. FIRST 2 BULLETS WERE MISFIRES. GUN ENDED UP MISFIRING 23% OF THE TIME AND THAT WAS WITH 4 DIFFERENT BRANDS OF AMMUNITION! BOLT WAS STICKING REPEATEDLY. AT BULLET 83 THE CHARGING BOLT COMPLETELY SEIZED IN THE WEAPON. I HAD TO USE THE WOODEN HANDLE OF A HAMMER TO GET UNSTUCK. THE BRASS INSERT THAT HOLDS THE BUTT PLATES FOR THE ADJUSTUBLE BUTT STOCK ARE COMING OUT WHEN TRYING TO TIGHTEN. SAVAGE REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A BRAND NEW DEFECTIVE WEAPON.

1 year agoI have nothing to say except great things about this rifle, aside from it being a little heavy for not having a practical sling mount. The action was smooth out of the box and I have not had any issues chambering rounds. The trigger is outstanding! Before adjusting it the pull was light and crisp... after the adjustment, the trigger squeeze is as close to perfect as I felt (i.e. Sig, Ruger, Christensen, HOWA, and Barrett). Other than the zero I have put about 100 rounds through it with one extremely ethical and humane kill on a small whitetail at 125 yards (she was cold before she hit the dirt and she dropped in place) and most of the rest were hits or near misses on gong type metal targets at 450, 550, and 685 yards. I also hit 20/20 in a full silhouette at 300 yards all within 3" of center mass. I have the Vortex Eagle 4-16x42 mounted on the Vortex Pro Series rings for my optic and a Magpul bipod. Performance wise, all of the missed shots were on me and my lack of practice and rushed or overthought fundamentals as well as figuring out the hold downs on my first shot at the longer ranges. Pictured is my grouping and zeroing at 200 yards. (First shots ever with this rifle, but it was bore-sighted) On the smaller circle target the shot to the left was my fault, I wasn't ready and I forced it while joking around with my spotter. (8 shots in the circle target, top target only, the 2 in the bottom were from a different gun). The black silhouette has 12 shots in it. the first shot was the one bottom right followed by a windage adjustment and then the shot in bottom left followed by another windage adjustment and then bottom center shot followed by the elevation and windage adjustments then the next 2 shots which were the top left 2 shots. Finally the last windage adjustment and next 7 shots followed by the small circle target and 8 rounds (other picture). That was my first box of ammo. I zeroed at 200 yards which I was told should be 1 and 1/2 inches high to be dead on at 350 and it was.

1 year agoI have shot out from 50 to 300 yards with this rifle and had great grouping using 129 gr to 140gr 6.5 Creedmoor...More than 200 rounds shot to date. The bolt has caused a couple of non fire situations, but that could be due newness and shooting in temperatures below 25F...Great Value for money and its a robust rifle

1 year agoI reload .30 cals, so I have been looking at purchasing this in .308. But reading the last two posts about their 308, it definitely had me hesitating. Turns out, the "bolt issue" is not only for 308 but also 6.5CM. PEOPLE, do your own research and DO NOT go off of other people's COMPLAINTS when it comes to Firearms. No firearm is perfect, there will be one of two out of any firearms that will have problems. - That being said!! Picked up this rifle couple days ago chambered in .308. I usually get it set-up on my own, but I got to talking with Gord, from Edmonton south Cabelas location. Decided to get it set up by him. He was knowledgeable, experienced, passionate, precise and good at what he does at the gun counter. He mounted my scope, bore sighted it. Went to the range, took 20 rnds for the barrel to start grouping well. by the time shooting 30th round, I was shooting .35" groups. ***** 0.35" GROUPS ******. I'll be the first to tell you the good news, my .308 shoots well and better than all of my other expensive rifles. worth the money. go get after it.

1 year agoI bought this rifle in .308 and it has shot accurately (sub-MOA). The bolt was a little bit rusty out of the box which was annoying, but I've cleaned it up and oil it regularly - hasn't come back in the two months I've had the rifle. I haven't had any other problems so far. My rifle cycles well and the extractor and ejector work well where others have reported faults. My only gripes have been that (1) the stock is slightly high so you can't bore sight it easily and requires you to take the stock off, (2) the cheek rest requires the Allen key to adjust it, and (3) the AccuTriger adjustment isn't easily accessible.

1 year agoI bought this in .223 and added a MDT muzzle brake for fun. This shoots as well as my more expensive rifles and can handle many rounds on a hot day without losing accuracy.

1 year agoBought this rifle as an upgrade over my previous long range gun, and I am left speechless. Threw an MDT muzzle brake on to it and with around 100 rounds to break it in and to get to know the rifle it is sub MOA at 100 yards all day long. So I decided to step it out a bit further to 1100 yards and it blew me away. For the price I really have nothing bad to say about it. Tho I would recommend taking every bolt out and putting by a bit on blue loctite on them before hitting the range.

1 year agoGreat beginner precision rifle for those looking to start out without breaking the bank. Shooting is nice and easy with relatively easy adjustments to length of pull and comb height, but unfortunately if you want a short length of pull, the provided bolts are too long so you will need to replace those. It's also a pretty heavy rifle so I don't think you are going to have a good time lugging this through the woods on a hunting trip. My major issue with this rifle is that the action is very rough. Releasing the bolt from the locking lugs requires quite a bit of force and will prevent you from maintaining an eye down the scope for follow up shots. Hopefully this will loosen as I break the rifle in more.

1 year agoBought the 308 version, the bolt took a dozen or so rounds to break in and slide properly without hanging up a little bit. After that the loading and accuracy is perfect

1 year agoI purchased this rifle in 308 March 2021 and have 300 rounds through it. Break in is around 100 rounds. Ive shoot out to 800m this rifle is best you can get for the money. I put on and MDT muzzel brake and bi pod. Put a Vector Optics Continental 5x30x56 scope on it. Its my first Savage rifle and definitely wont be the last. I have my eye on the Savage Elite 300win.

1 year agoI bought this in .223 as it comes in a 1:7 twist and the MDT Mags are long enough to take the 88gr bullets easily 700yrds on a 10 inch plate no problems moved out to 1000 on a 15inch plate and made numerous hits when the wind would cooperate great for pushing your wind reading abilities at long range on a budget much cheaper to shoot than my other set ups with the price of powder etc.

1 year agoI bought this in 6.5 Creedmoor and has been an excellent shooter. Let’s talk pros and cons. Pros: Accurate. - I zeroed the rifle and got a feel with only 20 rounds. The scope is a budget Riton X3 6-24x50 FFP mil reticle. I shot a match barrel barely broken in and I did OK on paper ( my first LRP match ever shooting past 200 yards) when it came to breaking targets, I was able to break all five 4” clay pigeons at 275 yards with 5 rounds. I left the trigger in its default setting which was just right for me. Cons: Feeding sometimes sticks and you need to pull the bolt back and slide it forward again to seat a round. Lifting the bolt requires a lot of force, I fixed it two ways, 1 install a lift kit which has bearings to reduce friction 2 installed an aftermarket longer threaded bolt handle .

1 year agoWow. Beautiful rifle. I adjusted the trigger to its lightest setting and then i noticed that side pressure on the trigger safety blade would cause a dry fire where the firing pin never struck the primer. This was confusing at first until i studied the trigger mechanism. The trigger is perfect. I was using it improperly and it responded as designed.

1 year agoIt doesn’t have the right butt stock. Don’t have a option to put a sling on without buying a new one

1 year agoGreat accurate rifle. I bought it in .308 and mounted a Vortex Viper scope and magpul bipod. 2 shots, 2 deer last year.
