2 years agoScope rail was built improperly (factory defect). No scope mounts would fit. Gunsmith said same thing.

2 years agoI purchased this rifle in April at the Gonzales LA store. Trying it out today for the first time, out of the box, it produced astounding results. My load was a mid range 42 grains of IMR 4320 behind Sierra's 168 grain Match King bullet (#2200C). It was a little windy so shot at 50 yards. The first three shot group, blowing the protective oil out of the barrel, was a little high and to the right and measured .932. The second group, after a scope adjustment, was centered and a little low. It measured .388. After another sight correction the third group was just above center. I was "blown away" with one ragged hole - group no bigger than .200. My scope is a Leupold compact 3x9 with a 33mm objective. I mounted the scope using Leupold's QR bases and rings. (highly recommended). Obviously, I have an MOA rifle that gives target performance in a hunting weight rifle. It doesn't get any better than this.

2 years agoThis is a really good rifle. It is probably the best version of model 70 ever done. The bolt is smooth and the whole metal work looks really precise. Also it is a very accurate rifle, mine is 30-06 and is shoot in less than 1 MOA any 180 grains factory ammo that I have tried. ( Barnex VOR-TX 180 grains, Winchester Super-X 180 grains , Remington core-lokt 180 grains)

2 years agoI just picked it up. I haven’t had time to mount a scope yet. But the rifle feels and looks better than I hoped. Can’t wait to get out to the range.

2 years agoBought a model 70 because I prefer: a wood stock in my hands, controlled feed, the three position thumb safety, the looks and history of the Winchester.

1 year agoWhen I was 15 my grandfather bought me this rifle. With my arms being a little shorter than most men and my chest being bigger than most women he had the stock custom fit for my arm length and it fit perfect! Once I started using it for deer hunting in Wyoming I felt like a pro hunter! The accuracy on this rifle is spectacular! It's not too heavy and is PERFECT for a child's first hunting rifle, and also for smaller statutes women. The kick is almost non existent, and even with the high winds of Wyoming it is very easy to adjust for the shot. Like I said before this rifle made me feel like a pro, because every deer that I have hunted with this rifle I have shot with 100% accuracy and dropped the animal instantly. This makes me feel great as a hunter knowing that the animal did not suffer and a second shot was never needed. This rifle is a keeper, and will be one that I pass down through the generations!

1 year agoI bought this rifle 2 years ago and I am very satisfied with my purchase. I got my rifle chambered in .270 and have brought down 2 dandy bucks with it these past two years. Very well built and machined and is a favorite in my rifle arsenal. Nice and lightweight and pairs very well with a Leopoldo scope. If you are looking for a nice whitetail rifle, look no further than this one.

1 year agoThe engraving on the wood along with the blueing on the barrel is fantastic. The 3 positions safety is a great feature too. I’ve shot a 8 point whitetail and a nice black bear so far, mine is chambered in .308.This is the rifleman’s rifle! If you are looking for a beautiful rifle that will last a lifetime, this is it. I definitely recommend it.

1 year agoI got this gun for graduation and I don't think I could have got a better gift. chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor and topped it off with a crossfire scope. Feel like the king of the woods.

1 year agoI have this in 30-06.. It's light and DOES NOT KICK LIKE MULE!!! Very low recoil and extremely accurate! Less than 1 MOA at 100 yards with almost any 150 grain factory ammo. With that being said I had my barrel free floated and glass bedded. Also had the trigger lightened to 2lbs. Excellent weapon!! Anybody that knows what they are doing knows this gun is a shooter!! ALL Carlos "Whitefeather" Hathcock used,, enough said..

1 year agoI purchased a Winchester Featherweight in 6.5PRC. No factory ammo has been available but I have managed to reload 3 different powders. The beginning charges of the 3 different has shown excess pressure with cratered primers. With a lack of factory ammo and excess pressure in reloads makes the rifle useless.

1 year agoGreat Rifle. I’ve searched for this model and caliber for 6 months. Now waiting for deer season. Thanks Cabela’s!

1 year agoAs another reviewer posted, the mounting holes were drilled incorrectly on my rifle. When attempting to remove the plug screws they spun freely in the hole and were only held in place by caked blueing. Its back at Winchester now getting repaired. I will update the review when it’s returned.

1 year agoThis is a classic rifle, with a Mauser type action that is super smooth and an extractor that is probably the strongest and most secure in the industry. The featherweight Mod. 70 has a great feel and balance, and mine is shooting sub-minute of angle with factory ammo. Proud to own it!
Happy Hunt
1 year agoTwo words “Love It” and fill my 3 deer tags last year and 2 this year. None required tracking but then again it’s a big rifle for deer. It did select this one since I really wanted something I could use from Deer and up, I’m happy I went this route. I will say it’s a bit picky on ammo and I came across a few loads at the range (super X & copper extreme) which I wouldn’t use further than 150 yards hunting. The Deer Season extreme point 150 gr and Barnes TTSX 180 are a hit however the difference on the two deer season rounds surprised me though as both are 150 gr. Mounted Optic is a Vortex Viper 6.5 X 20 X 50. It’s not unusual for us to cover 10 - 15 miles a day in hilly terrain and at times we have to battle the snow so I have come to really appreciate this Featherweight model and it is a beautiful rifle, great quality with proven history.

1 year agoWell I love this gun but the spring in the bolt was not right...after a trip to a master gunsmith he used an old model 700 and fixed it. Otherwise,I love it.

1 year agoExcellent rifle! Beautiful fit and finish! Action is super smooth! My only complaint is mine is a 30–06 and it definitely needs a 24 inch barrel not a 22 inch that it came with
