1 year agoThere were no reviews on the rifle from Cabela's website so I researched online. Majority of the reviews were positive so I decided to order one. It arrived in three days to our local store. I installed a 3-9 power scope on the already provided weaver mounts. I immediately had problems with the bullets digging in to the lower edge of the chamber. I tried several different brands and CCI was the worst which I usually consider one of the best. The more rounded the bullet the more they jammed. I disassembled the gun and inspected everything, found the edges on the guide ramp sharp and digging into the lead. Also my magazine became more difficult to load and finally it would not rotate smoothly. Researching more I found this was a very common complaint and some sent there gun back to Savage for repair and others tried their own remedies. I have tinkered with gun most of my 66 years so this is what I did. I disassembled the magazine and warning it has some serious spring tension. The edges of the fins between each cartridge slot was chewed up from the rim of the bullets causing burrs to drag the inside of the magazine. I used some 600 grit sand paper to clean up the edges and polish down any sharp ridges and reassembled. Magazine loads much smoother and rotates easily. Next I removed the loading ramp from the bottom of the barrel and polished the sharp ridges off as it probably would have naturally after chambering a couple thousand rounds. I cleaned and lubed prior to reassembly and took the rifle back to my range. The rifle performed perfectly with every brand 22 cartridge I chambered in hollow point or round point using CCI, Remington, Federals and Winchester. Shot 300 rounds with zero jams and grouped 2" at 100 yrds. I would highly recommend this gun if Savage would correct this problem and if your not real familiar with the workings of magazines or firearms I would not recommend doing the repairs I made yourself.

1 year agoSo far out of the box it handles and fits well. This is the perfect entry-level and skilled marksman rifle as far as to the first two. Shooting is on hold until ranges reopen that's why the four star rating. Savage has found a nich that many firearms manufactures fail to grab on to, by manufacturing left hand action firearms of quality and a great price.

1 year agoI really like this rifle. It has an adult feel to it when you shoulder it. I mounted a scope on mine and am very happy with it. Mine shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards all day long. I would recommend trying several different brands of ammo. You will find your rifle will usually prefer one brand over the others.
