1 year agoMauser 98 has the perfect combination of features that is the basis for any top custom build, and I have built 5 custom mausers for myself so far, from mostly old military actions. * Flat bolt face, without plunger extractor that causes side pressure on cartridge. *Excellent gas venting of blown primers. *4 bolt lugs, 2 safety lugs besides the two primary lugs. *Double barrel alignment faces on the receiver hold the barrel in perfect alignment with receiver, and the setup is rock solid, as is the bolt lockup. *Gas shield on front of bolt shroud to protect shooter in case of a blown primer or worse. *extra top glide rail machined on bolt gives smooth bolt action. *Controlled feed that prevents jams when reloading rapidly. *Bolt shroud safety that allows loading and unloading with safety on, and locks firing striker and not the trigger, preventing accidental firing from the roughest shocks that might happen in the field. All-in-all, the 98 Mauser has been copied, but never surpassed. It has ALL of the features that a shooter could expect from a top of the line sporting rifle. Mauser 98 remains head and shoulder superior to any of its competitors, in both superb engineering and in aesthetic artistry that is expected in a superior grade fine rifle.
