I have a new A5 in a wooden stock and got this one to take the punishment of waterfowl hunting. So far it's held up perfectly to the tasks I've put it through ( a few dove and teal hunts). You definitely won't find a lighter shotgun than this. It's a very sweet shooter.

I bought this gun for waterfowl, 3 1/2 is a must for geese or large birds.
This Wicked Wing version with the cerakote is beautiful. Little pricey for a 12GA.
Good Job Browning otherwise -

Front sight post not flush. Blemishes on paint. Paint is not scratch resistant at all, any scratch exposes shiny metal. Bailey extended charging handles do not come with/on gun and they won’t, I know this because contacted the company.

I could not be more pleased with the new Browning A5 Wicked Wing in 12 ga 3" chamber. Great gun. I traded in a 6-month old Beretta A400 that I just could not shoot well -- could not get it to fit me right. The lack of a center bead on the A400 also made it more difficult to know when you had the gun mounted properly. The A400 just wasn't working for me.
All that changed when I picked up the new A5 Wicked Wing. So far, I've run a couple of flats through it, and functionally, this gun is flawless. And I am a fan of the new Wicked Wing camo scheme, cerakote finish, and the larger bolt release button on this. Nice features even on a nice day, but even better on a cold day with gloves. This gun fits me well (certainly better than the A400), and it's a pleasure to shoot. The trigger pull on this A5 is smooth and seems just about right for a field gun. I'm liking the cerakote finish on this -- so far, seems pretty durable. The bottomline is that I'm hitting targets with the A5, and that's the point -- right?
I'm glad that Cabelas was able to give me a reasonable trade-in value on the A400. That combined with the Browning 10% rebate made it easier to get the gun I should have purchased the first time around.

After 3 weekends of waterfowl hunting with this gun, I'm VERY disappointed. The gun looks great, but operationally, it’s been a nightmare.
1) had to take it back to Cabelas after attempting to assemble because the bolt release would not close. After having their #1 gunsmith work on it, they were able to get it to work, but of course after my concerns and request to exchange the gun, they wouldn’t do that...
2) speed load doesn’t feed shell into the chamber
3) bolt release doesn’t consistently eject gunshot shells - requires 10+ attempts to eject shells
4) ejection port usually stays closed after 3 shots and magazine is empty, which makes rapid reload horrible due to speed load portal locked up.
I saved 2 years for this gun and can’t believe a gun of this cost point has such horrible workmanship.

I bought this gun at the beginning of last season and it was a great gun, but this season the gun has been inconsistent on when it performs to the level of its price point the inertia system hasn't been cycling any 3" or 3.5" shells despite being properly clean and oiled, but it will run 2.75" without even being shouldered so the recoil spring is just to weak to handle the heavy loads gun will be sent back to browning

bought this as an upgrade, had a browning maxus that would not reliably cycle 3.5 shells despite being sent back to the company
this A5 shoulders great, and so far i have not had a single failure to feed/cycle. have hunted pheasant, chukar, ducks and geese and 100% satisfied. the mid bead is a little larger than what i'm used to and the controls are a little different than the maxus, but no big deal. oversized bolt release and charging handle with the wicked wings trim make handling with gloves a breeze. also the safety is better designed (maxus often would accidentally turn off the safety by simply grasping the stock). i have not shot skeet loads but from low brass #6 thru 3.5 inch BB, it has not had a hiccup.
the finish is great and the selection of nice extended chokes is a bonus. i was deciding between the A5 and the new benelli SBE and beretta's top end guns and am 100% certain I made the right choice

Been duck hunting 20 yrs. A5 shoulders and points best of any shotgun I've duck hunted with from Benelli to Winchester (which I have in the gun safe). Very satisfied with this purchase and would highly recommend.

I have a Belgium barrel A5 made in 1963 that was handed down to me by my father and will be handed down to my son. It's the only shotgun I've ever used and it still works flawlessly and is dead on accurate. But given new technology and cartridge sizes, it's a little out of date. So in anticipation of goose season, I purchased the A5 wicked wing.
Although it's not my pride and joy, I've used it in the field to shoot wood ducks in very difficult shooting conditions and it worked flawlessly. I've had no problem cycling shells with 1 1/4-1 3/8 loads in either 2 3/4 or 3 inch shells. I haven't used 3 1/2 inch shells in it, and don't know if I ever will, they seem to be a bit of overkill to me. At the range, it patterns well at 30-40 yards using a modified choke. Putting cheek to stock it has the same sightlines as its father. I think its a more than worthy addition to the family and am extremely happy with my purchase. It has a 5 year guarantee on parts from Browning, so that is a plus as well.
It comes with its own breakdown carrying case that is just ok. I strongly encourage anyone purchasing the new A5 to field strip it and thoroughly clean the receiver, the bolt, and the barrel as they have been coated with some kind of substance (which I assume is a rust protector) before they take it to the range or in the field. That's it, no real negatives so far with just shy of two boxes of shells that have passed through it.

I bought this shotgun @two years ago. I did so because I had a problem of switching to my left eye (I'm a right handed shooter). The "hump" shooting alignment helped me to correct my eye problem and the gun shoulders great. However, when high volume shooting, I had a terrible problem with the gun not ejecting the second spent shell. I took it apart several times, cleaned & oiled, cleaned and left dry, etc. Nothing worked. Finally had to send it back to Browning. It appears to be ejecting correctly now but will only know for sure when Snow season arrives.

I’ve had this gun for 2 waterfowl seasons and bought the gun for its lightweight and great eye alignment when shouldering but right from the beginning I found any 2.75 load for trap/skeet does not eject getting caught up in the first round shot out of the gun. Recently have found even 3” and 3.5” having the same problem in cold weather even after tearing apart and cleaning/oiling the gun. Do not recommend for the price of this gun. Never will buy inertia driven action again! Sending back to Browning after season wraps up!

If you are looking for an expensive single shot jam-o-matic the new A5 is for you! Take this as a warning. Browning owes me money that I lost on the trade. The new A5 is hot garbage.

Says in the instructions that it will not cycle loads lighter than 1 1\8 ounces. It's cycled everything from 3.5 inch loads down to and including 1 and 1\8 ounce trap loads.

I bought this gun 3 seasons ago had no issues the first season o had no issues then the second season like everyone says it had single shot issues so browning said to send the gun in (which I didn’t) I bought a SX4 to get me by so I could send it in, but straight of the box the factory choke tube was crossed threaded into the barrel. So I called browning because I now had 2 guns I couldn’t use mid waterfowl season. They said no need to send the browning in the issue is the bolt held assembly and they shipped me one that arrived in 2 days. The gun has been flawless ever since I got the new bolt head assembly the first one is slightly different and that is the cause of single shot A5s if you don’t want issues make sure it has the new bolt head before purchase the gun is great 5 stars

Have owned just over a year, several hundred trap shells, and just as many waterfowl loads. Overall performance has been great, only real con is the Cerakote finish is a bit more fragile than I would have expected.

I am a Benelli guy, have to say the ease of and accuracy of the Browning Maximus wicked wings is incredible. Figured for the sale price and rebate, if I didn’t like it I would sell it. I used it with out a flaw for the 6 hunts I did over early Teal season.

This gun has been terrible. Two weeks after buying it the ejector failed. I sent it back to Browning and 6 weeks later they sent it back. I continue to have had cycling issues and now my forend cracked on a cold day. It's been 8 months and I still can't get a replacement.
Further, the gun doesn't cycle 2 &3/4" shells.
Cabela's was a nightmare to deal with too. Just call browning when your gun breaks.
