The ultimate sporting autoloader. Originally designed by Browning family member Bruce Browning, this is the rifle that set the standard for hunting semi-autos. Featuring fine Walnut, a precision machined ordinance steel receiver and a hammer forged barrel, this magnificent BAR will make autoloading enthusiasts out of the most skeptical riflemen. Classic in looks and contemporary in performance. The BAR MK II Safari is the hunting rifle that sets the bar for every other autoloader on the planet with accuracy and speed – and a caliber selection – that is not matched by any other hunting semi-auto. The Browning BAR sporting version is certainly a distinct and separate rifle from the military BAR M1918, but its design is the result of Browning’s unmatched understanding and expertise with automatic rifles that started with John M. Browning. His grandson, Bruce Browning, was the driving force behind today’s BAR. A large team of automatic firearms experts at the FN factory in Belgium also played a key role in its development. This group of FN automatic rifle designers, lead by Marcel Olinger, began serious work on the project code named Carbine 66, with full-scale development and testing done throughout 1966 in preparation for an official 1967 product launch. Both the history and the efficiency of this amazing rifle is unequalled among autoloading rifles. Traditional stock, polished blued steel barrel and engraved receiver, select gloss walnut stock, rounded forearm, sporter style barrel.

Features:

  • Gloss finish select walnut stock with cut checkering
  • High-relief scroll engraving
  • Drilled and tapped for scope mounts
  • Short action length

I was looking at getting a 300 win mag for elk and decided on a Browning Bar. The only Bars around was at Cabelas Online. I ordered one and a week later I received it at Mesa Bass Pro. I was pleased at the wood that appeared to be grade 3 or 2 and the overall new condition of the rifle.

I bought this rifle at Cabelas online in .308 and installed Leupold VX-Freedom CDS Rifle Scope - 3-9x40mm. Sighted it in at 100yrds at the range. Took it out then and set up targets at 200, 300 and 400yrds. Shoots great, very accurate. Shooting Norma 150gr Whitetail ammo. I think it’s a great looking rifle and shoots just as well.

I've hunted with the same Browning BAR since 1987. The guns been dropped out of tree stands and ATV's and landed in several mudholes, ponds and shooting house floors. Never had any issues with the gun. Purchased the MARK II for my son. He wanted my gun, but I wasn't ready to pass it on. Very accurate and a beautiful gun, my son loves it! I'm sure he will get at least 35 years out of this one.

It is a high quality firearm; however, I expected the walnut stock to be more distinctive wood grain, for that level of quality. The action is excellent!
