Bought the special with vortex MRD, I love FNs however....the trigger is a long gritty county road to pull, the vortex is NOT a "shake and wake" you have to manually turn on and off, not good for a carry sight. Also the dust cover will not fit due to the rear sight placed so close to the MRD.

The trigger is very gritty I always buy cheaper guns never had a trigger like this hope it gets better after shooting some rounds down the pipe.

I like this hand gun. The trigger is a little gritty and I'm hoping it will smooth out with a little shooting. My gripe about it is when I got mine home I realized there was a nice sized scratch in the top of the slide. All the way threw the cerikote.

After a lot of research and phone calls, we have a definitive answer on this. I just got off the phone with FN Herstall, and this is definitely a full-size 509. I think it’s just an honest mistake/typo on Bass Pro Shops end. But I did purchase this for duty, thinking it was the midsize firearm. I even ordered a third midsized magazine for it, which was obviously too short, that now has to be returned. Bass Pro shops, and FN are both great, please just fix this in the advertising. There is a lot of confusion on it in the questions section already.

I bought this gun recently and was very disappointed. The trigger is awful. It feels gritty when you press the trigger and not a smooth pull. The optic is a bad design for this pistol. You have two locking screws on the front of the optic you can't get too due to the rear sight. You can't lock the optic down after zero without removing the optic.

The listing is a little off. This is actually the full size 509. From what I can tell it’s the Law Enforcement version that is listed on the FN website. In the box it comes with the vortex installed and then the slide cap if you want to take the optic off. This is still a good pistol and a very good price with the optic included. The only thing is I wish the gun would have come with the different back straps and the other optic mounting hardware for if you ever wanted another RDS besides the vortex.

This is basically the LE version with blacked out rear and fiber optic front. Also, the magazine release is right-handed only. With the vortex viper installed at 699.99(on sale), it is a great value for a MHS pistol. I was actually surprised that it went for that low compared to the competition.

I am going to keep this review short and to the point. If you have any doubt in your mind whether you should purchase this firearm, go ahead and leave that at the beginning of the checkout process and get this incredible hand gun while the price is as good as it currently is.
