ROCK ISLAND 1911-A1 45 ACP 4.3in Black 8rd

This is a great sub $500 1911. The fit and finish is great for the most part. Some of the machining was a bit sloppy but overall very good. Parkerizing was even and smooth. Parts and function are perfect. Shoots just as well as my buddies $800 Springfield 1911. My order shipped in 3 business days and grabagun.com credited my account after a misprint in their website left me a magazine short. Overall it was a terrific experience. Thanks GrabAGun!

Nothing fancy, it is what it is, a GI 45. The front sight is non-replaceable, would have liked to install TruGlo TFX Pro sights. Would have rated it 5 stars if the wood grips were checkered. But all considered, its a great deal for the money.

Very good commander sized 1911 A1 for the price. I had an extra set of checkered grips and an arched MSH that I put on it. Shoots great with no misfires.

This RIA 1911 Commander fits in my hand very well and is extremely accurate shooting hard ball. My problem was wanting more on this 1911. Better sights, better hammer, extended slide release etc… I’m used to swapping parts for Wilson Combat quality upgrades and that is what my RIA needs (for me). I made an impulse buy on this one. Nothing wrong with this model at all. Should have paid more on an upgraded RIA 1911. Money spent on upgrades exceed a few steps up in RIA inventory.

Really a great, well made gun. My only complaint is the take-down procedure with the bull barrel and captive recoil spring. The gun would be just as accurate wit a std barrel, and easier to take down

Right after i got it home I field stripped it, cleaned the lacking lubes and oiled it up and added a dab of grease to the slides and went to the range. It functioned flawlessly with two styles of bullets. Round nose copper jacketed as well as truncated hollow points! I'd have given it 5 stars if the front sight didn't have a glare that makes it difficult to see. A $0.93 bottle of craft paint at a department store took care of that nicely.

The same weapon I carried in the service, and I have been wanting to get one for a long time and the price is just unreal for a weapon as well built as this! The only difference is the grips and that was solved very fast! The grips are interchangeable with Colt.

I was expecting a full Full Scale {FS) not a mid scale (MS) so the take down is different. You need an unbent paper clip to do it. Other than that it looks and shoots good. I changed the grips out for a checkered pair and at a glance it looks just like the 1911 I carried in the military back in the 70's. A very good deal for the price.

This felt solid in my hands. You can tell it was built very well. Rock Island Armory makes excellent handguns. I have yet to fire it. However, I have already qualified with a 45 cal in the military, getting to practice with this one will become second nature.
