Here is an honest review of my experience with a ruger american 7mm-08 scope package ive had for a few years now, that at the time came with a redfield 3x9x40 scope. Problem 1: It said it was factory boresighted but that couldnt have been more wrong, it wasnt even on paper at 25 yards, but that was no big deal, just took a few more rounds to sight in. Problem 2: i noticed when i took it to 100 yards and attempted to tighten up my groups, the accuracy was all over the place. I found that the left front of my forend on the stock was warped a little and was in contact with the barrel, which i later found out was a common problem with these rifles. Again not a big deal, i just took a pocket knife and scraped away at the stock little by little until it wasnt making contact even when the barrel was hot from lots of shooting without much cool down time in between. After that the accuracy was amazing at 100 yards. My 7mm-08 really likes the 139 grain hornady interlocks. To sum up; i was a little disappointed and frustrated at first with this rifle, but after working out a few kinks i love it now. Its extremly lightweight, accurate gun that i would buy again.

Just picked up this rifle and wow.. several things to absolutely love about this Rifle and Scope! 1) it's a solid expensive feeling rifle. 2) the safety is great and easy to control well you are sighted down the rifle scope. 3) the 3 lug action/bolt is so smooth you almost have to check that a bullet went in. It's crisp. And the 70 degree bolt is great for not jamming up against the scope like a 90 degree. 4) the scope is amazing, huge range of where you place your eye to a huge view. 5) deadly accurate!!! Took less 9 shots to fully dial in the rounds at 125 yards. Shots 10 through 12 were in a half inch group and 2 rounds hit the same hole. 6) I am using a 308 and the recoil is very mild and the the accu trigger is just perfect. Only con was the mag is a little cheap but the rest of the rifle way more than makes up for it. This is a rifle that you can be very proud of even if it was a significantly more expensive package. The high quality scope it's packaged with just makes it so much better! Ruger has out done themselves.

Purchased the American/Vortex combo, and after inspecting at home, I noticed two issues. First, the left side of the stock's forearm was contacting the barrel (I have heard many reports of this, and the barrel should free-float), and second, there was a dent at the crown of the barrel. Ruger does not have a specified warranty, but their customer service is more than willing to make problems right. They issued an RMA number, sent UPS to pick it up, and paid shipping both ways. They replaced both the stock, and the barrel. The repairs took a while (5 weeks including shipping), but they did it right. They also sent it back with a Ruger silicon cloth, and with a magazine (even though I didn't send the original mag in. I just got it back, so I haven't been to the range with it yet, and can't comment on performance. After owning other Ruger rifles, the American definitely has the "economy" look and feel (cheap materials and parts, mold lines, low overall fit/finish). But, I suppose they aren't asking high-end prices either. Despite this, I like that the bolt body has the same diameter as the lugs (reducing play in the bolt channel). The trigger is satisfactory (light pull, clean break, but a longer uptake than ideal). The length of pull is nice for me (I'm 6'6"), and the recoil pad is forgiving. I will be swapping the scope for a Leupold VX-1 (the Crossfire loses more brightness and clarity at 9x). I am disappointed to see Cabela's tout this combo as "100% American-made". Despite Vortex being an American company, the Crossfire is manufactured oversees. The scope rings are stamped "Made In China". Overall, seems to be a good buy if you can get it on sale, but at full MSRP, I'd recommend buying a gently used Ruger M77, or a new Savage 111/116 instead. 5 stars for Ruger Customer Service, 4 stars overall.

Bought this gun a few years ago. Was the only 30-06 calibre rifle that was comfortable for me to hold compared to Browning, Remington and savage. I threw a Leopold scope on it which just added to the awesomeness. Shot 165 grain Winchester rounds threw it, got it sighted in within 10shots at 100yrds. Shoots perfect every time now. Got my first black bear with this gun first shot. I will always buy ruger rifles from now on, never had an issue with any of them.

I bought this rifle knowing the complaints about boresight not being accurate and stock issues, after getting the rifle shooting straight (40 rounds) I have a MOA impact with 3 round grouping. Also, my stock was perfect alignment so no need to return/exchange. Hoping to get great use from this

Purchased the Ruger last month and it has been wonderful. I purchased the rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor and also purchased 4 boxes of cartilages with a couple of different bullet weights. Now the update! The rifle still has the many wraps of box disfiguring and disguising security tape intact and ammo is in the ammo dry-box! Perhaps before spring I may get around to opening the box and checking to be sure the serial number on the rifle really does match the rifle. I might even put the bolt in the receiver! Perhaps when my son is visiting at Christmas time we can work in time to apply a firing pin to a 6.5 Creedmoor shell. In my mind the rifle will print 5 in a quarter size area at 300 yards. Ammo cost has been very reasonable. All is well.................................

I've had this rifle (.308) and scope now for a couple weeks, and I waited to do a review until I had a day at the range with it (as opposed to just an unboxing review). I'm not a long range shooter or anything, just a dude who wanted a good deer rifle in .308. I don't shoot premium ammo, just a twenty dollar box of Winchester 150 grains. My stock did touch the barrel on the left side forearm, just like others have said. 10 seconds with a file resolved that issue. I put a cheap bipod on and did some shooting from a table (no lead sled or shooting bags). See pictures for the results at 100yds. It took me about 15 rounds to get to this point, starting with 2 groups of 3 at 25 yds for initial scope adjustment, then out to 100yds for final adjustment. As I stated in the title, I'm very pleased.

I have mine in .308 and have been more than happy with it. Holds zero at 100 yards with no issue. Smooth bolt and solid optic, used federal non typical 180 gr. Generally i get about moa groupings at 100 and 200 yards. will recommend to anyone who was a budget rifle.

I bought mine chambered in 30-06 and took it out to sight it in at 200 yards. After a few adjustments was able to hit the bullseye. The gun is accurate and reliable!

Rifle itself is ok but the toys r us mag is piece of crap.clip doesn’t work at all in the winter or when it’s cold. un reliable clip feed even when it’s not cold out most times it will not feed well. Not recommended for dangerous game when you need to quickly reload the chamber. Disappointed with Ruger for this model.

Quality Rifle with Excellent Value that has a great scope. The rifle had almost perfect bore sight out of the box. The gun is lighter weight and has great workmanship. Ruger made an excellent Deer Hunting rifle at a great price.

I’ve only shot this gun four times at a target after it was bore cited. At 100 yards it was on the money. I really like the feel of the gun.

Love the rifle so far. Only issue is the scope was loose when I picked it up. Guess the bore sighting was off, but not bad.

Great gun, accurate at the range, but the ammo is hard to find in my area and the optics came in loose fit.

Had to fine tune the scope zeroing. Other than that this rifle has been a great addition to my collection. Three shots..three deer down. Very little recoil. This will be my girlfriends go to next year. Wait..I might not get it back..
