I bought this 2 months ago. Have taken it to the range a few times. Fired both .223 and 5.56. No malfunctions whatsoever. That first shot was a really nice surprise. If only there was more ammo and at reasonable prices I would be at the range more often. Also added a vortex red dot and magnifier which helps with long distance. Great weapon.

out of the box at this price you add a Rise 140 Super Sport trigger, a Magpul MOE stock and hand guard, a Magpul VFG, and a Sig red dot and for $1000 you have as good a AR15 as you can possibly buy for $500 less then a Saint or a Tread. keep the bolt group wet and it will never misfire.

I finally purchased an AR style rifle after months of waiting for them to come in stock. Right out of the box it felt well built (as guns from Ruger usually are) and I decided to take it to the range the first mag went through flawlessly, but the second had a few jams which I think was the ammos fault since it was old and dirty. Overall this is a excellent rifle great for all around target shooting, hunting, home defense, and just practicing the second amendment in general.

Had to send back to Ruger right out of the box because the barrel was warped. Took them about three weeks to fix and return.

This is a nice looking rifle and is a pleasure to shoot. Because of the muzzle brake it is said to be louder but wearing ear protecters I can't really notice much difference. In four weeks I managed five range trips and have put almost 1000 rounds through it without any serious issues. I had a few failure to feeds where the bolt missed picking up a round. Probably mag related. No jams. Also after about 500 rounds I noticed the stock getting wobbly due to the castle nut backing off. The nut was not staked though suspect that is intentional. The extra two inches of barrel likely adds accuracy though my gun range has a max of 200 yrds so I can tell any difference from my 16" AR. The big issue is that my bolt will not fit back into the carrier after the initial out of the box cleaning. I use a bolt from another older AR and it fits well and the gun runs well with it.

I have owned three Ruger AR's, the pistol, the sr, and the ar556.
All three shoot great and have no issues. The only thing worth mentioning is you absolutely must thoroughly clean and lube the bolt carrier group before shooting. The bcg comes with a rust inhibitor that is not a lubricant and can cause issues.
Other than that, im very pleased with these ar-15 style rifles. For the price, they're a great entry level ar.

Front sight and connected gas tube came loose after about 75 shots. The two pins that hold the sight in place were missing. I didn't expect this poor workmanship from a Ruger.

We built a few AR15 since buying this.
Being a factory built rifle in my opinion it is among the best.
I had mine since early 2020.
It shoots well. Very accurate with a nice 5x optic.
I love this rifle. Although we have
some custom built with best of every part one can purchase going for $2000 each. This is a favorite after those.

I've tried every variety of ammo and the one I have is defective, does not reset after every round, I have to buy not only a new trigger but also a bold carrier.

I bought this rifle a little over a month ago, and I could not be happier with it. There are so many choices out there at this price point. I own 2 Ruger semi auto 9mm pistols, and they have both been rock solid. So after reading the reviews, watching videos of guys putting this rifle through it's paces, and talking to friends of mine who are AR enthusiasts, I decided that this was the rifle for me. I have taken it to the range twice, and have put about 500 rounds through it. I did have a few short cycles with steel cased ammo. But any of the brass cased ammo I have run through it has performed without issues. I have been told that once the rifle is properly broken in, to try some steel cased rounds again. But for now, I am perfectly content with the overall quality and performance of this rifle. For my first AR, I don't believe that I could have made a better choice. I am confident that this rifle will give me many years of service and enjoyment. Compare the features of this rifle to those in the same price range. They really don't even come close to the level of features and quality of hardware for the price. Buy with confidence. You will be glad you did.

This was the first AR-15 style rifle I purchased. Like a beginner's guitar, I wanted something to play on while learning and researching. Do not max out your credit card on a Les Paul before you know a few chords. I wanted a reasonably priced rifle from a manufacturer with a strong reputation. Sturm Ruger checked those boxes.
Good news first. I think this is a fairly high quality rifle all around (despite the bad news below). Fit and finish are well done. Magpul style (but actually Ruger) pop-up rear sight is included, as well as 30-round (for states that embrace the US constitution) PMAG magazine. Everything is MIL-SPEC. That is a plus because you can customize as you like. The buttstock is OK. It does not have a rubber pad, which would be nice. Everything else is fine: grip, handguard, charging handle, bolt carrier group. Trigger is also just OK, but that is expected. Ruger does sell an upgraded trigger, as do many other manufacturers. Customization is one of the great features of the AR platform and this rifle is no exception.
Bad news. I think I received a lemon. My rifle just came back from its second Mayodan, NC vacation. Severe issues with the charging handle and bolt carrier group. On its most recent outing, out of 13 rounds of high quality ammunition there were two soft strikes. That's not good. A warning of things to come? Yes, it turns out. This was followed by a complete breakdown rendering the rifle unusable. And teaching me the valuable lesson of bringing spare parts. Upon firing, the buffer tube retaining pin and its spring somehow broke and lodged themselves inside the trigger assembly. End of range trip.
Perhaps the unbridled demand for firearms has led to some fast and loose rules with quality assurance. At any rate, customer service has been top notch. It has been inconvenient, and certainly would not be acceptable for a 2X cost rifle, but I am hanging in there.
I replaced the stock, grip, and handguard with Magpul gray parts. Much more comfortable.

Great rifle for someone just starting out in the semi auto rifle field. Have had no problems so far with the magazine and rounds feeding through.
So far I have ran 300 rounds and no issues. I am using a full metal jacket 65 grain load. So far I am very happy with my purchase.

Cycles geat. Have only shot 5.56 out of it so far. Very easy to modify with 3rd party handguard if you want to add more hardware. QD point on underside of A2 front sight. Shown here with UTG slim drop in mlock handguard and Bushnell trs-25.

Bought this a couple weeks ago; put around 200-250 rounds of 556, zero issues (no fte,ftl etc) - the trigger is lovely around 4.5lbs pull with a clear return. shoots on-target very well.
i am by no means an expert; bought this for plinking targets and fun. This is a fantastic AR build without spending the big $$’s (e.g. DD).
loving it so far.

I only bought it because the resident in office won’t shut up about ARs. The dude won’t shut up about it! He’s the best gun salesman ever because of that.
Honestly, I have an Axis 243 bolt action I bought a year ago that I’m still more interested in. I haven’t shot 5.56 yet but the shell size of 5.56 next to .243 makes 5.56 look puny. I wonder what the hype is other than the death cult won’t shut up about it.
Anyways, it’s about what you’d expect. Initial box packaging was crap. Cardboard box was damaged, gun oil everywhere, trigger safety lock was cracked and I didn’t get a Ruger decal I heard I was supposed to get from a YouTube review.
It’s a quality gun otherwise. I’m sure it will outlive me and I’ll pass it down in my family even if I have to do that secretly or illegally in the near future.

Very very nice for price. Marked up 300 for my state though. Mag well a little sloppy and trigger is meh. But I 100 would buy again it looks so pretty. Like a model m4 and performs like one to. My gun was super greasy. Make sure you clean the barrel mine was soaked. But no rust.

If Glock made an Ar-15 it would feel like this Ruger! It’s simple and easy to disassemble with plenty of aftermarket accessories. At the end of the day a gun should be reliable and this beauty puts its money where its mouth is.
