Very good overall rifle. Light, accurate, and personally, I did not have any issues with reliability. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is the little customizability of this rifle. A scope mount can be mounted, but aside from that, there is not much more which can be added.

Own the Tactical with folding stock and Ranch Mini 14. They are a tank in a .223/5.56 caliber rifle. Accurate enough for what they are intended for and very reliable. If you want the better accuracy of the mini look for at the Ranch rifle (longer barrel) or the Target model (only use .223 in Target model). Love the Garand style action of the mini

I bought one of these for my teenage son.
He could not handle the M1A Scout (carbine), so I thought that this would be a good alternative.
Being semi-auto, the follow up shots are faster, and he can keep his head down and eyes on the sights. While the .223 caliber is not the best for hogs, due to it's light weight bullets, well placed or multiple rounds WILL do the trick.
Light enough to haul around all day and short enough to maneuver in dense brush, this is a good deer gun and close quarters hog gun for women and kids.
The lack of a flash suppressor and high capacity magazine makes this gun CA compliant as well. There are a lot of 20 & 30 round magazines out there, so don't let the small capacity spook those wanting a "riot gun."
Bass Pro Shops will price match the best price you can find, so do not let their sometimes higher prices scare you off. Then you can use your discount codes, promotional codes and gift certificates to get a REAL GOOD DEAL!

I liked the rifle for the fact that it is light weight and packs a lot of fire power. I topped mine with a 4x12 Nikon Pro Staff scope. I had the Mini 30 in 7.62x39. 7.62x39 is really a poor performing caliber, and that is my fault for buying a rifle chambered for that round. Plus, the Ruger guns aren't supposed to shoot the cheap steel case ammo, and when you have to buy brass case ammo, all the savings on ammo go right out the window. My biggest complaint with the rifle was its extreme inaccuracy. I had a dead rest on a coyote at 60 yards and completely missed the animal. When I took the rifle to the range expecting that I was to blame for the poor shooting, it turned out that the rifle just isn't capable of reasonable accuracy. I put it in a lead sled and shot on a calm cool day at 100 yards. It didn't matter what I did with that rifle. It would sometimes vary 6" from shot to shot up and down and side to side. If you think it might be the ammo's fault, there may be truth in that statement, but try finding good ammo for 7.62x39. The best round available is Federal Fusion 125 grain soft points. Aside from those rounds, everything you can buy is junk, My rifle's accuracy was extremely poor with Winchester's 125 grain soft point load. Overall, this gun is for somebody that wants to pull the trigger and see some dust fly at 50 yards. It is not made for hunting. I got rid of the rifle and went to a Browning BAR. The Browning is superior in every way that I can see.

I have wanted one of these rifles for decades and finally bought one. I went with the wooden stock for authenticity and it is absolutely flawless. This has to be one of the most fun rifles to fire out there. It performs beautifully and you can feel the quality in the rifle both when handling it and firing it. Sorry I didn't buy it earlier! There's a reason these are so popular. You will never let this rifle go once it's in your hands.

I've had my mini 14 for about 5 years. It's a 16" tactical model. Shoots accurately enough using surplus ammo, usually under 2" at 100 yards. Has fed everything I've put in it. I put white paint on the front sight which makes it stand out better. Also have had a 2-7x33 Leupold and a 2.5x20 Leupold on it. The 2-7 is probably more commonly used, but now I keep the 2.5 or iron sights most of the time. Spends most of its time in the back seat of my truck these days. I have a bunch of factory 20 round magazines which all work well. The only peculiarity is the flash hider rings after the bolt goes into battery. Not annoying, but I never had an AR style do it. On the important stuff (sending bullets down range), load, squeeze, bang and a hole appears where it was pointed. If you're looking for a gun that does that, I highly recommend it.

Yes, i love my Rugers and i love my new Mini 14 in 300 Blkout.
Great weight and balance.
Very very accurate and great shooting.
Ruger was smart to build the Ruger Mini's as they all look like "hunting rifles" and do not look like "military style AR types".
But you get the same awesome military power but much much better accuracy in a small package at short or long distances.
Are not on "any governmental radars" for now!!!

I have been using the Mini 30 since the first year it was produced. Over the years I have killed in excess of 25 deer with this gun and never had a jam or misfire ever. It is not a bench rest gun. It is a 150 yard or less hunting rifle. Using the Hornady SST rounds and a 3-9 power scope I've found it to be a deadly combination for deer. My wife killed her first deer with it as did my son. As a result I have purchased a Mini 14 for the wife and she loves the rifle and has taken deer the last two years with it. For deer hunting in the Ontario woods these light fast handling rifles are an excellent choice.

I purchased my new Mini-14 Tactical in .300 Blkout from Cabelas in June 2016.
Love this rifle. Very very accurate like my Mini-14 in 5.56.
The only way to go when you need to shoot rounds fast other then your M4 semi-auto rifle.
This was a great purchase for me.

Mini 30 light and easy to carry.Mine is really accurate.Put a leupold hog scope on it makes a great combination. Had the trigger worked on which was very inexpensive and within a hundred yards very very accurate. I would highly recommend.

I have the .223 and it's really fun to shoot but it's not accurate at all. I've tried 6 different factory loads in it with a good Nikon scope, then I bought a new Leupold for it and the best I can get is a 4" group at 100 yards. I don't have this problem with any of my other rifles. It's not a cheap gun and if I had known about the poor accuracy I would never have bought it. A rifle that don't shoot where you're aiming is just worthless.

I bought this gun about 3 weeks ago.Shoots great , cycles flawlessly and is fun to shoot. Wood stock looks and feels great with next to no recoil. BUT .... the rear sight keeps coming loose after every 5 rounds so hard to get sighted in. Will take out to range and attempt to zero and add blue lock tight to set screws.

The Mini 30 in 7.62 does not like any ammo but brass cased. It's a well built firearm but will regularly jam and eventually lock up solid with any lacquered cased ammo. So the steel Com block stuff is out. I bought a windham weaponry AR platform from Cabela's that will shoot the "AK" ammo all day.

I have four. Two .223's that shoot M.O.A. I also have two 300 blk that shoot near M.O.A. The mini-14 is capable of good shot groups at 100 yards. At the range I have no trouble besting the AR's. Very reliable! no blow back in the face like another popular riffle. Very easy take-down for cleaning. Lot's of aftermarket accessories. Put's me in mind of the M14 I used in the Army.

If you can get your hands on one of these Mini-14 rifles-do it.
Although a bit pricey, this rifle is worth every penny. Well balanced, dependable, and politically correct in it's appearance. Extremely accurate. I give it a 10.
Good hunting!!

Cons: Presenting with failure to eject - moreso with 5.56 than 223, but with both nonetheless. I've researched online and it seems this may be common with newer generations of this firearm, which is disconcerting considering it's reputation for reliability.
When it does eject, the trajectory of the casing is very unpredictable, and it deforms the casing.
Pros: With that being said, the handling, sights, accuracy are all on point. Easy to field strip and clean other than the bolt retaining plate which snagged pretty badly on mine.
Just wish some of these issues weren't happening. Not really expected or appropriate for the price point.
