2 years agoThis is the smartest firearm purchase I have ever made. It is simple for my wife and 17 year old daughter to use. There is virtually no recoil, nice sights and the mags are easy to load. It’s also easy to break down and clean. Ammo is cheap. One ejection failure in 400 shots and that was the bullet’s fault. My daughter kept turning around and giving me the thumbs up after every clip. 10/10. Great firearm. Highly recommend.

2 years agoI got one after years of waiting for an easier to clean version. It has become my favorite item for going to the range. They pretty much nailed it. I wanted a no frills hammer to drive 22 nails. Typically I fire 350 rounds in a session between cleanings. Pretty reliable with a single fail to feed, and 1-2 fail to fire issues during a typical session. This is likely the ammo's fault, and not an issue with the gun. There are always good strike marks on the brass. Likely a little light on primer, or light on powder in the round. Ammo used Best to Worst: 1. Federal Bulk 22 36 gr CPHP, cycle well. 1-3 FTF/FF per 350 rnds (Also Federal Value Packs) 2. Winchester 36gr CPHP 2-4 FTF/FF per 350 rnds 3. Federal Automatch 3-4 FTF/FF per 350 rnds 4. Remington Thunderbolt. 3-4 FTF/FF/FTE per 350 rnds Dirty 5. Golden Bullets were ehhh, 4-8 FTF/FF/FTE per 350 rnds Dirty *- I just started to try some others, and found cycle action of Winchester M22 40 gr was very good. Very Clean too. On par with the Federal but only had 2 FF on 350 rnds on my first session. A few more sessions are in order to give a thumbs up. Winchester Wildcat, Browning BPR on Deck I mostly have used 36 gr, and some 40 gr. If you shoot with a novice, go with the lighter bullets for them to get comfortable, then switch to 40 gr. It took a while to figure the right amount of lube/grease to keep it working smooth. Drop of oil on the recoil spring. Touch of grease on the bolt and high wear spots, and then a drop of oil on the bolt, and it cycles great. (Too dry, and more likely to have FTF/FTE after 200 rounds. Too lubed, and dirt accumulates in front of the bolt/back end of the barrel too much in the last 50-100 rounds causing FTF, FF, FTE issues) Extremely easy to clean. That is all I have to say about that. After about 5000 rounds, the black hand grip plates both broke under the screw bosses. The OE Replacements seemed a bit better quality, and I have had no issues after another 3000 or so rounds since. The Standard has fixed sights, and are a little course for fine work at over 15 yards. The other models are likely better in this department. Bought 2 more extra Ruger Zinc/Nickel plated clips and shoot 4 x 4" blue splatter targets. 40 rnds at a clip, reload. Use a slightly modified speed loader clip with filed edges to protect the fingers a bit. A session takes about an hour typically. It has greatly improved my technique at a fraction of larger caliber cost to operate. Blued clips that came with the gun seem to load a little less fussy than the Nickel plated ones I got later. Ruger/Youtube have good videos on tear down and cleaning. I would say it is reliable like and anvil. Buy one, you will love it.

2 years agoFor some bizarre reason, the 40112 Competition Mark IV is equipped with an ambidextrous safety but features a grip panel suitable only for right hand use. Thanks but no thanks....

2 years agoI had a Ruger Mark II since the 1980s. It was always a great shooter but had three things I didn't like about it. 1. The magazine release was located at the base of the grip and was difficult to use. 2. Field stripping it required a vise, wooden dowel and a hammer, every time. 3. Reassembling it after cleaning was a nightmare. Ruger corrected all 3 of those issues with the Mark IV. The magazine release is behind the trigger, where it should be. It field strips with the push of a button and it goes back together, just as easily. One of my best recent decisions was to get rid of the Mark II and buy the Mark IV. It is very reliable, extremely accurate, and a lot of fun to shoot.

2 years agoThis is a great platform to customize for training, target practice and in my case open carry. There are lots of available upgrades and it's fairly easy to disassemble with take down just a breeze. Accurate and relatively comfortable, but those with smaller hands might find the reach to the bolt lock lever a stretch. Honestly, that's my only gripe, and on the plus side it's heavy, made of steel/aluminum and simply feels real in your hands. Stop thinking and start buying! I'm looking forward to getting an optic on it!

1 year agoMy buddy borrowed my MKIV for trapping season and fell in love almost as strongly as I did. He managed to talk me out of it and now every time I see small game while moose hunting I miss it more. Lots of fine upland game still walks Mother Earth now because I'm a pushover. I will correct this error very soon and again enjoy some fine rabbit and grouse dinners.

1 year agoGreat gun for its price. Solid bull barrel and 2 mags included. Great adjustable sights (rear) but plain solid black front sights. Huge carry case with storage space.

1 year agoVery easy to shoot and hopefully will use it for steel challenge. The best part is that it is easy to take down AND put back together. Unlike the Mark 2.

1 year agoI've had this for over a month. I generally feel new guns need a break-in period. Not this one. No feed/jam issues regardless of the 4 brands of ammo I've used so far. This is a great buy.

1 year agoVery Disappointing Mags are chafing the sights are so far off center the pistol shoots to the left with adjustment set to right at maximum , looks like ill have to pay to ship it back for repairs I've only shot it 3 times.

1 year agoGave it 5 stars after I replaced factory extractor and firing pin with Volquartsen. Factory trigger was rough and a lot of pre travel. Added Volquartsen accurizing kit. Now it is a 5 star gun

1 year agoOrder processing and shipping was quite fast, and the item arrived to my FFL dealer on time. Unfortunately my FFL dealer still has not processed the transfer, but that’s an issue on my end, not yours. Very pleased with Guns.com!

1 year agoI love this hand gun! It is very accurate even with just the original sights. I was hitting my 5 inch plinker at 15 yards easily. Lots of fun to shoot with!

1 year agoFreaking love this gun. Had been thinking about buying this for a while. Then price dropped $100 so had to get it. Looks and shoots great out of the box. You won’t be disappointed.

1 year agoI like this pistol yet for it being a 4th gen it still ought to have an ambidextrous mag release by now. With the first 50rds I had only a single stove pipe extraction fail. ???? I’m a bit disappointed with the front sight. The case ought to be either a cardboard box or a nice fitted case worthy of this legacy pistol not...Read More Read more about review stating Good but not great…yet.

1 year agoIf you want to have a great time hitting the target, this is the one! It’s just a joy to shoot and it’s got great heft. I have a full line of Ruger Mark IV firearms, this is my favorite for plinking.

1 year agoBetter than I expected. Easy to shoot and clean. Accurate and precise. good ergonomics. Takes all brands of 22 lr easily. Overall solid pistol.

1 year agogun is on the heavy side as expected, super accurate and fun to shoot. not a fan of the factory grips so I put a hogue grip on and it's way better. ran the cheapest ammo I had through it (aguila 38gr) and it jammed at least once per mag. I cleaned it and put some CCI and Winchester through it after with maybe 1 jam total.
