First of all, this model number has a heavy barrel. These rifles already have weaver-type mounts on the barrel, making scope mounting so much simpler. Just need the correct height/style of rings (extra high needed for my sweet 17 scope). The rifle is a joy to shoot as is the .17 hmr round. I have not messed with the accutrigger yet. Shooting at the factory settings. But I will soon. Great gun for the money.

Bought this gun a month ago and mounted a nice rim fire scope on it and it shoots flawless chickadees at 60 yards are as good as dead. 2 light strikes first clip, but I chock that up to break in Because it has been great ever since. Wonderful value

Just bought this gun yesterday. Had cabelas mount and bore sight a nikon buck master 2. Took it out today sights were not to good. About 13 inches out at 50 yrds. Had it dialed within nine shots. Groupings so tight you could barely tell there were three holes on the board. Love it.

I purchased this rifle to shoot ground hogs. I had the salesman at Bass Pro mount an Pursuit 22 scope on it, brought it home, and within 1/2 hour (and a box of shells) my wife and I were consistently shooting dime sized patterns on paper at 50 yards. (she had never shot a rifle before today) For such a small projectile these things really penetrate..... we used CCI VMAX 17 grain varmint (only thing they had in stock at the time of purchase) My back stop was made of a heavy wood pallet, 2 sheets of drywall, 1" foam, and 2 sheets of 5/8" plywood, and they were still coming through the back. The barrel of this rifle is extremely thick, but is still light and fairly well balanced. I think this rifle is fairly well made for the price range, and will last a long time. I am very happy with my purchase of this rifle. The reason for 4 stars is the loose feeling clip, I also purchased an additional clip and it seats much firmer. The factory clip can probably be fixed with an little pinch of some plyers.

My Dad bought one of these back around 02-04, his favorite rimfire. It has no Accu-trigger and the bluing is kinda worn. Recently got one of the new ones, the adjustable trigger is a good upgrade. Some people may say the 17 HMR is too much for a grouse or rabbit but even just a graze from these rounds will blow a good size hole in the critter, may be brutal but you'll rarely have an animal run away wounded, which is good. The bolt on the newer ones may have a hint of rough-feeling but after some rounds it'll smooth out. Having a synthetic stock instead of wood helps with hunting, you don't feel like your always having to "baby" the rifle, the bumps and scratches on a synthetic stock isnt as bad as it would on a wooden finish. The magazines included have a capacity of 5 rounds, that's good, it helps you not get carried away and shooting all your rounds at once, but if that's what you want, there is 10 round magazines available. some magazines may spit out the ammo, a fix for that is to get some pliers and squeeze the mag lips slightly, to hold the cartridges better The V-max and CCI's speer TNTs where my favorite to put through this rifle untill the A17 ammo came around, The CCI FMJs where the best for rabbits. I never tried grouping but the accuracy is more than sufficient for offhand hunting, the weight of the heavy barrel makes it easier for offhand shots, it dampens the shakiness abit. I had a split case with the Winchester 17HMR ammo, but the newer ones don't seem to have that problem One of the 2 downsides would be the ammo's weight, the bullets hitting or making any contact with the smallest twig or grass can throw the .17 cal bullet off, even if its a well aimed shot, even a good gust of wind can push the round off a good shot if the target is far enough away. Other than that, the ammo is safe ricochet-wise, the bullets will almost always disintegrate when hitting the ground instead of bouncing off and away like it's older 22 rim fire relatives. The 2nd downside is cleaning the barrel, KEEP TAKE DOWN CLEANING RODS away from the barrel, it'll be a tight fit and mess up the rifling inside, just get some green ice fishing string, tie multiple knots and pull it through the barrel with your favorite solvents or oils.

After a full season of Ground Squirrel shooting, I can attest to the excellent accuracy of this rifle (with Nikon Bushmaster II 3-9 x 40), aided largely by the smooth Accu-Trigger. The bolt-action as experienced with the included 5-round clip is opposite in quality: quite unreliable, often won't retract empty casing, even more often won't grab new shell for the reload, the latter occurring almost once per full clip! Am astounded that a rifle this cheaply-made could be offered for sale on the continent. Never had a rifle with such a poor, wobbly clip-attachment.

I got this gun about a year ago for varmints.I have a chicken farm that seems to always have some kind of visitor, but most time my 12 guage didn't have the rage. I decided to get this gun because of the deadly .17 caliber and the bolt action for good reliability. It's incredibly accurate at 125 yards witch is as far as I need to shoot most of the time. If you miss with this rifle it's probably your own fault and what you do hit is dead!

Had this for about six months now and have no complaints! Deadly accurate rifle. My go to at the range. Clip takes a while to loosen up but not a deal breaker. Put an illuminated 3x9 scope and a snow camo wrap on it. Varmints going down this winter!

Picked this up for just target shooting, but its certainly accurate enough to dispose of varmints as well. Stock is typical cheap plastic, but can be upgraded thru the aftermarket of course. Bolt is smooth enough and I didn't have any issues with the magazine, as it worked well for me. Haven't had any misfires or misfeeds or anything of that nature. Rifle just did what it was supposed to do. Didn't have it in the rain or damp conditions but the blueing looks ok. Love the trigger! Crisp and breaks nicely which makes this a great bench gun. I put a Cabela's calibre specific scope on the rifle, which is tuned for Hornady V-Max and its a great combo. I really have no complaints about this rifle.

I bought this for my son to shoot squirrels. I helped him get it sighted in and the thing is crazy accurate sob moa at 100 yards easy. Only negative I found is the mag is a little sloppy and if you rest the gun on it it makes it hard to cycle the next round

Right out of the box, I had problems with the ammo not feeding properly. I went online and read the reviews on the magazine and I even watched videos on correcting the problem. It appears this problem has been going on since 2017. I also have the same problem with my Savage .22 and 30-06. Other than the magazine problem, it shoots like a champ, well balanced and accurate.

I bought this .17 about 2 yrs ago, put it in an MDT chassis and have enjoyed it since. I have the bull barrel so it doesn't bounce when I shoot. I'd recommend to anyone. I'm not one of these guys going for a head shot on a newborn field rat at 1000 yds. I zero at 50 and that's fair enough for me. This thing has no problems putting rounds where you're aiming when you're set up.

I purchased 2 for grandsons and both have bad ejectors, rough triggers, poor quality workmanship and impossible to shot a good group with either. I contacted customer support hoping to get parts to at least improve the ejectors and found them to be very rude and unhelpful. NO more Savage!!!!!!!

Great rifle! Used for predator hunting in some of the toughest conditions and never failed to feed or fire. Very accurate and light. My only con would be the factory scope mounts. Makes it difficult to swap other scopes on or off the rifle. Otherwise, this is a terrific purchase!

Pretty fun little rifle. Not so happy about finding out it only shoots .17HMR after purchasing other .17 ammo. I bought this rifle in the gun clutch, no .22's anywhere to be found. So far, so good.

Like the fun a lot. Shoots well and killed a critter with it on the first shot. The 17 hmr is a wonderful little caliber and this gun has a nice trigger. I would not and repeat not have gone with the synthetic stock on the bull barrel model. The stock is cheap and is not worthy of a savage product. Get the laminated wood stock it is a way better gun and has way better feel. Hollow thin synthetic sticks designed to increase profits and not quality or accuracy is not a good idea.

Absolute tack driver right out of the box. Threw on a bipod and an old Nikon 9x scope I had laying around and with five minutes of sighting it in it was easily sub MOA and killing cans at 300 yards every shot.
