Great rifle - very accurate - as expected from Savage Arms. HOWEVER - the hinge that attaches the rotary magazine to the rifle is made out of cheap plastic, and didn't last more than 14 reloads.... I bought a box of 222 rounds winchester .22LR and it broke on our second outing - before we ran out of ammo. Magazines (or the entire rifle itself) should be recalled until they came come up with something better. Perhaps the rifles are so accurate that they don't have to test them so much.. but a broken hinge (that rendered the magazine worthless) after a second outing?

30 rounds and the magazine will not stay in the receiver without pushing on the little plastic arm on the magazine. Shoots 1.5 inch groups at 25 yards with a Cabela's scope, my old 552 shoots .25 inch groups at 25 yards. If this is an example of Savage quality I'll never buy a Savage again. I'll return to Cabela's and see how they handle it.

There is not much info here concerning this rifle so I thought I would add some. Evidently, there was a time when the rifle shipped with two magazines and scope mounts already attached. The one I received had only one magazine and no scope mounts. I did a google search and found this is the way the recent rifles are shipped. Finding what scope base to use was a problem as I again did a google search for information. I found the Weaver mount #46 ((48046) to be the correct one for this rifle. I also found the EGW 1-Piece Picatinny-Style Scope Base for Savage A22 LR Matte (hardware included) would also work and give the shooter more options on where to mount their scope. This is the base I used for my rifle. It fits perfectly along the rounded receiver. The sights that come on the rifle were difficult for me to see. The problem was two fold. 1. It was hard getting my head low enough on the stock to look through the rear sight. 2. the rear "V" notch is small and difficult for old eyes (63yrs) to see. Not a problem as this rifle begs to be scoped and that is what I did. I purchased Cabela's Alpha series 3x12-40mm scope and Leupold medium rings. With the base height of the EGW picatinny rail and the medium rings, there was just enough room for the scope bell to clear the rear sight. This rifle is massive for a 22Lr! It has a steel receiver I understand to be machined from a solid piece of stock. It is well put together and well finished. Function is smooth as silk! The magazine on my rifle fits just fine and stays locked up when inserted. There are sling swivel studs already mounted on the stock. The rifle just feels good when bringing it to the shoulder-it feels like an extension of your arm. When shouldered the scope is in a perfect position to give excellent target acquisition. For these reasons and more I'm giving this rifle a full 5 stars. I think this rifle would be a great addition to any shooters safe and I think you will be pleased with the purchase. Thanks

This is a nice enough rifle for the price but it has some problems. To remove the action from the stock you must remove 2 bolts. One is accessed from the top which requires removal of a "dust cover." This is not possible with a scope mounted in the usual way. Removing the scope to clean a rifle is not a thoughtful design on a blowback rimfire. You might possibly use extra high or see through mounts but I haven't tried it. I finally settled on a red dot. The rifle sights are situated so low that you can't use them! They either need to raise the rear sight or reduce the height of the stock. The trigger adjustment is enigmatic and the design of the trigger assembly is not very good. The bolt does not lock open on the last shot. I dont hate this rifle but I much prefer my Ruger 10/22, Marlin 60 and Remington 597 autoloaders.

Been very happy with this gun, It will hold a 1/2 MOA group at 50 yards using match ammo and a very good scope., I'm using a 6x24x50mm.... The only thing I believe they could have done better with was the magazine.....It takes some time to get used too.

Let me say first I love the way this rifle looks. the fit and finish is outstanding at this price point. I made this purchase with the goal of simply using it for target shooting and I am very happy so far. Using it at the range I belong to I am only able to shoot out to 50 feet but with a economy 4x scope I can easily place 5 rounds in a target the size of a quarter at that distance. I cannot wait to get out to the local outdoor range an see what I can do at 50 yards. The 10 round mag is fine … Read More
