1 year agoi purchased this rifle three years ago and couldn't be better pleased. with 17 gr. bullets 1/3 inch groups at 100 yds. is common. 20 gr. hollow pts give you much better penetration and shoot almost as well. liked it so much i bought one in .22 mag. as well. good shooting!

1 year agoI have a BSA 3-9X50 scope on this gun, you can shoot a head shot on a squirrel from over 100 yards away. It extremely accurate and holds its accuracy. The action is smooth, light trigger pull. The only bad thing is its a little heavy once you add a scope...its the perfect gun for a squirrel. The .17 HMR is extremely fast and powerful on a squirrel. It will KILL them with ease.

1 year agoI bought this gun about 3-4 years ago and had a BSA sweet .17 scope installed from bass pro. Quite frankly this rifle is "my baby" out of all my guns (23). The bolt is super smooth, clip works great. I use .17 grain winchester rounds and have never had a problem. Keep in mind i do maintain my weapons religously including removing the bolt every time the gun is shot to apply new oil. Mine is used for protecting cattle in freezing temps nightly. All together the .17 cal by savage is a top of the line rifle for a medium price range. If i was to buy another or help a friend decide on a varmit rifle i would buy this one again.

1 year agoI've had the rifle now for about two months. I've only had the opportunity to shoot it at the range, but I've been there about 6 or 7 times with this rifle. I installed a 3-9 x 50 scope on the rifle as soon as I got home with it. I bore sighted it, went to the range and shot 3 rounds at the 50 yard target. I was about 1" high and 1.5" left. I started shooting at the 100 yard target. Confirmed I was high and left with 3 or 4 shots. Adjusted the scope and tried again. Dead center at the 100 yard range. After making that one correction I finished a 50 round box of ammo on that same target. My group was all within a 1" pattern. I love this weapon. My buddy has been to the range with me about 4 or 5 times while I was shooting the Savage .17 HMR. Now he wants one so bad he can barely wait to pick one up. I watched several You Tube videos of guys hunting prairie dogs, ground squirrels, ground hogs, crows, and even coyotes. This .17 HMR round is accurate and deadly on small game. If you want to have a great deal of fun shooting, and not spend up to $1.00 per round with center fire ammo, go out and get a .17 HMR. It's unbelievable how accurate this Savage rifle shoots.

1 year agoi just bought this gun. it is realy nice it keeps a tight pattern to 100 yards just about the size of a quarter. the was priced just right for having a wood stock. very satisfies with my purchase. i would highly recommend this to any one.

1 year agoI purchased this rifle from BPS about 4 months ago and have taken it to the range two or three times. I love this gun! I think the .17 HMR round is inherently accurate, but this rifle with its heavy barrel and Accutrigger help to make it even more so. This Savage is well-balanced, good looking and just fun to shoot. Firing from a bipod and with an inexpensive 4X-16X scope I am shooting MOA at 100 yards. I believe that 3/4" to 1/2" groups are possible - if not for my shakiness. I highly recommend this to anyone interested in target shooting or hunting small game or varmints.

1 year agoI bought this gun about 2 weeks ago and have only put 50 rounds through it but was very impressed when shots 11-13 made a 5/8 group at 100 yards. Put a nikon 3x9 50mm on it. Was what I had that wasn't mounted on something else. Great gun and fun for the money.

1 year agoI wanted the .22 mag stainless steel which was the same price, but alas their website advertised it, but they did not have it. So I looked at the .17 HMR and went with it instead. I do like it though.

1 year agoIt's a tack driver and a lot of fun to shoot. 2in drop from 25yds to 150ys so you can hold dead on for quite a distance. Put a Vortex 4x12x40 and works great. Adding a Boyds thumb hole varmint stock that should be here soon. Love this thing!!
