2 years agoI bought this gun in .243 - It really is a good little gun. Trigger is adjustable and so far this thing has shot awesome groups. It is shooting sub moa. If you need a accurate varmint gun for the back of your ranch truck this is a good option.

2 years agoThis is a fantastic combo. I am a very inexperienced shooter. I go out a handful of times a year and shoot milk jugs and things like that. I have a Remington 700 CDL in 30-06 and this combo shoots just as good. I got the combo with a camo stock in 270 W and I just love this gun. I took it out the first time and it took about 1/2 a box of cheapi Winchester 130gr bullets to sight it in. The trigger is phenomenal, I like a hair trigger so I adjusted this accutrigger to its lowest setting. Awesome, better than my Remington by far. I agree the stock seems a little flimsy but is sure shoots great. Last time out I was hitting pop cans at 200 yards resting on my truck tailgate. If you are looking for an outstanding inexpensive ACCURATE rifle, you cant beat this combo. I recommend to anyone, great gun.

2 years agoPurchased a Savage Axis .223 with pre-installed Weaver 3x9x40 scope. Windage was spot on and elevation took 4 quick "up" adjustments to get on the X. Very nice to shoot. Used locktite blue on scope mounting screws and I had no problems with the scope.

2 years agoI bought this .243 for my wife and she loves it. Light enough for her to easily carry and she can put three in the bull at 100 yds. Gonna buy one for my new daughter-in-law.

2 years agoI actually have two Savage Axis rifles. One is the original without the Accutrigger and the other is the Savage Axis 2 with the Accutrigger. I've spent much more on other rifles only to have them be less accurate than the Axis. When I took it to the range with some buddies who spent much more on their rigs, I out shot them after they told me it was a waste to spend money on a cheap rifle. I was able to get 1/2" to 3/4" three shot groups at 100 yards with good ammo. I would recommend buying a good scope for it though. I put the Weaver scope on my 10-22 and it works great for that application. The Accutrigger is very nice. Once they release the heavy barrel version with the accutrigger I'll be adding that to my collection.

2 years agoBought this before the combo deal, without the Accu-trigger. Zeroed my old Simmons scope that morning, then went for an evening hunt. Took my first 3x4 buck two years ago...on the first shot. Have since replaced the scope with a new Weaver (I compared it to my buddy's Nikon & could not tell any difference). Went to the range this last Spring and grouped shots in 2.5 inches at 100 yards. Can't wait to go again this Fall. Thank you Savage!

1 year agoI received this rifle in 308 win as an early birthday gift on Nov. 6th.I bagged an 8 pt buck on Nov. 9th.I love the rifle..I really like the trigger it has a very clean release The scope not so much. The eye relief doesn't work well with my glasses, but I'm a Nikon fan. I still give this rifle 5 stars, because it shoot awesome. The fit and finish is not that of a high end firearm, but it functions very well.If you buy it I think you will like it.

1 year agoBought this gun the 223 variant for shooting varmints and other pests around the house. After getting sighted in shot five rounds in a single hole at 100 yards. Was very impressed with fit and finish as well.

1 year agoI bought this Savage combo in 6.5 Creedmoor. Right out of the box I noticed that the forestock was touching the barrel on the right side. I didn't think much of it except when it was placing 4" groups. I thought it must be the Weaver scope. But the other scope that was known for precision was doing the same thing. So I did some research and found that I needed to remove the warped section of the stock or just replace it with a better quality stock. It took almost 2 hours but I now got the barrel to free float like it was supposed to do from the factory. Now it shoots perfectly. I had to remove way more material then expected. Photos attached of the stock repair....

1 year agoPurchased this in .308 last week and had the associate bore sight one more time as I was headed on a hunting trip. I noticed right away that the trigger pull does not need adjusted from factory settings, for my liking, and sight was perfect. Bagged 4 hogs with precision right out of the box. Very smooth action and cycling of rounds. If you are looking for a reliable value rifle, this is it.

1 year agoI own 7 Savage rifles and I am happy with all of them except this one. It may turn out to be a good rifle, but it's off to a bad start. I shot the rifle once and I can't get the bolt to rack out the spent casing. It was suggested to get a rubber mallet to try to get it to move. I bought a mallet yesterday and will try to get it to move. I own 2 axis 2's in hardwood (.243,and .270) and they are 2 of my favorite guns. This one is a .223 in synthetic.

1 year agoI own 5 different Savage rifles and expected the Axis to be just as good as others. The magazine latching method couldn't be any cheaper and I expect it to wear out quickly. The barrel is touching the stock in the front 2 inches. I always had good accuracy with previous Savage rifles but this one is fair at best. My suggestion is to spend a little more and pass on this model.

1 year agoPurchased this rifle 2 years ago in 223. My combo purchase was well worth the price. The only problem I've had was after sitting in the gun case for a year the stock had warped and was touching the barrel - pulled the hardware out of the stock - used a dremel tool and a file and it shoots clover leafs at 100 yards once again. Took this rifle out West and had a ball shooting prairie dogs out as far as 200 yards. It done better than any of the rifles we took. This Savage accu trigger is better than any other stock trigger on the market. I plan on purchasing this rifle in 30.06 as soon as I get enough points on my Cabela's card. You can't go wrong with this rifle.

1 year agoPicked up the Axis II in .270... clerk bore sighted it and out of the box it was on paper at 100 yards... Within a box of shells, I covered 3 shots with a dime. I was shocked. You can't beat accuracy like that at this price. Would have rather had the Nikon scope, but I was pleased with the clarity of the Bushnell. Overall an outstanding value and I will purchase a matching rifle in 30.06 next year.

1 year agoBought the .30-06, magazine is cheap plastic, it misfires, and the polymer stock is inadequate. Save your money and buy a Ruger. And good luck getting a hold of someone in customer service, they will not get back to you.

1 year agoThe scope bases that come with this combo do not match the scope rings. If you look closely where the rings clamp on the bases you will see where the bases are not machined to a sharp enough vee to seat in the vee of the rings and the rings are barely seatiing on flat part of the vee on the bases opposite the clamping side of the rings. Just look at the rings on the side opposite the clamping side of the rings and you see the rings are barely holding to the bases. Why Savage would do this is beyond me. Just replace the bases with weaver brand bases and you will be fine. I think Savage would be better off not offering combos, they are just hurting themselves .

1 year agoAd indicates that a Weaver 3-9x40 will be mounted. The rifle I purchased had a Bushnell 3-9x. I didn't complain because the Cabela's where I bought the gun is 60-miles AWAY (round trip) and I knew they would ask me to bring the package back.I didn't need the hassle. My advice: Open the package as soon as the purchase is complete to verify that what you paid for is what you get.

1 year agoI bought this with the wood stock/Accu-trigger on sale primarily as a hunting predator rifle. Put a new 20 MOA rail on top and a Cabela's caliber specific scope (300 Win Mag as the ballistics are similar). Shooting 1/2" groups at 100 yards using Remington Core-loct 140 grain ammo which is not the most accurate out there. Very good gun for a desert carry, can't wait to take it out a little further although for my purpose if is accurate out to 400 yards that will be good enough....

1 year agoI very irritated right now. I bought this Savage Axis 30-06 brand new. First off it's supposed to have a Weaver scope on it yet it came with a Bushnell and I didn't see this until I purchased it. Another person said the same thing. Second, the magazine had the bluing chipped near the front-I wondered why...until I put it in the gun then it became stuck and WILL NOT come out. Obviously someone who was going to buy it or Cabelas themselves chipped it when someone was looking it over before they bought it-which I should have. It will not release no matter how much effort I put into it. All this from a new rifle. I called Cabelas to complain about them selling me a piece of junk only to have them tell me it's a manufacturing issue and I need to bring it in to ship it off to Savage. Thanks! So thrilled I haven't even fired it and it's junk!!! NEVER BUYING A GUN FROM CABELAS OR SAVAGE AGAIN.

1 year agoI purchased this rifle in April of 2019. While the gun is an outstanding bargain for the price and shoots incredible please know that you are not going to get what is pictured. I ordered it in 223 Rem and it came with a Weaver scope, not the Bushnell as advertised. I looked up both scopes online and it seems they are both in the same price range so it's not a huge difference. Also, the butt stock on my rifle is slightly different. The one pictured seems to be a more updated model than what I received. I'm sure it does not affect the rifle, but it is still different. Again, the two changes do not affect the function of the gun, but mine was slightly different...but at 100 yards it was perfect so I've very happy.
