Got my Axis 2 in 6.5 creed. Took off cheap scope and scope mounts and replaced with Basic Vortex 3-9x50 scope and mounts re-torqued scope and stock bolts it to spec with blue locktite added cheek riser and shot several MOA after 20 shots to break in the barrel at 100yds. Went on a Deer hunt put a bullet right in the ear hole, first kill with rifle and could not be more happy with it.

Bought this rifle for myself on my birthday and it was at a reasonable price and it’s beyond what I expected. Brought down my first elk with it. Definitely a great rifle at 308 Winchester!

I have owned this rifle for several years and have it is one of my top two rifles during hunting season. I am able to get out there and reach long shots with accuracy and dependability. When I purchased my rifle though, I did upgrade the scope and rings and this only enhanced the rifle's dependability.

I haven't taken ownership of the rifle yet, but this review is of Bass Pro itself. I'm normally 100% satisfied with Bass Pro and Cabela's but this purchase has me questioning them. I planned on buying this to take advantage of a rebate so I waited until the effective dates of the rebate to 'pull the trigger' on buying it. When I tried to buy it, the price was almost $100 less for their Black Friday sale, however it was showing as out of stock for shipment to my local store. I check several times throughout the weekend, and it was the same story. I decided to check early Monday morning and saw that the price was back up and it let me purchase it at the original price. I think it's a pretty sleazy move to lower the price but not let it be sold until the price goes back up.

I bought my Savage II XP in .223 to replace an old Remington 788 in the same caliber. The Remington, with its 1-14 twist, wouldn't handle any bullet over 60 gr. and I wanted a .223 with the flexibility to shoot most any bullet weight. I bought/loaded the Tubb's Final Finish Lapping System to condition the barrel. The bullets in the kit weighed 77 grs. and SHOULDN'T have stabilized in the Savage's 1/9 twist, but they actually grouped quite well, typically putting 4 shots into 1/2", and 5 into 1" - 1 1/4" @ 100 yds. With a load consisting of a 69 gr. Sierra HPBT Matchking, 5 shot, 100 yd. groups were 3/4", plenty good for an El Cheapo rifle. Surprise #2- The detachable magazine will hold 5 rounds instead of 4, as it states on the website. All in all, I'm very, very pleased with this rifle, especially for the money!

Gun for fun

I have this for 2months but havent fired bcoz its winter; so i spent the time cycling it bcoz the bolt is so stiff. At last, have fired it today and was so amazed. Boresight have perfect elevation and only adjusted windage. 5shots and it was almost bullseye. Cal30-06 and banner bushnell scope combo is a perfect match.

I bought this last year and had issues right away. My scope was broken and my bolt action area was too big. Couldn't chamber a round easily and it would hit the scope everything. Will be looking for something else.

I wrote a impressive review on google map - and still want to keep it that way. That was my in store impression and experience. It took more than a week to finally receive rifle in hand- it was online purchase. Now barrel says read manual for details and manual dont have 6.5 listed in its list of barrels. Going back to store tomorrow and will edit my review here... Neither manual has mention of this bore nor bushnell talks about their scope for this bore. Will take everything back and lets see what happens tomorrow.

I bought this about three weeks ago for my daughter in 243 and she has taken it to the range twice. She was able to shoot 1.5 inch groups right away as a new shooter. I was very excited. I would have rated this package higher if it weren't for the unbelievable stiffness of the bolt, the bolt release and the magazine. My daughter has to put the gun on her hip to cycle new rounds. I have wrestled with this bolt release to a frustrating extent. So it's accurate but I would pay more for a gun that isn't so stiff.

I want to give the gun 5 stars. The rifle itself is fantastic! Really happy with it. The scope that came with it was impossible to deal with. The focus was so tight you could barely turn it withough skewing the reticle by twisting the entire scope in its own mounts. Sighting it was just as bad. After a while of torquing on it it's stopped clicking. Can't move it in the last few inches at 100yrd. It remained inaccurate no matter what i did. I will buy from savage arms again, but I'll get my own scopes from now on.

Bought this rifle in a 30-06 last year, and took it Blacktail deer hunting with my son. I was all excited to try to use it, and then he borrowed it for 10 minutes and walked away from me and shot a beautiful buck with it! So, it works, and I'm liking it more all the time. The bolt is a little stiff, but seems to be loosening up over time. Also, it's a great value, so having to get scratched up in the woods only makes me feel better about it. Highly accurate and reliable as far as I can tell.

It is a great rifle. But, you want to change the scope rings out as soon as you get the rifle, because it is rather difficult to manipulate the bolt handle with the short scope rings.

Pretty good so far, working to sight it in. Only reason I gave it four stars instead of 5 is because it was supposed to be bore sighted but the first shots at 100 yards were 2 feet off target. I knew it wasn’t me as I adjusted the scope and got the grouping much tighter.

2023 Update - Rifle is holding up well surprisingly light. Took it through thick brush, is doing just fine. No elk this year but heres to hoping this year’s deer season treats us better. As you can see, I replaced the scope to a vortex 2 4-12 44, with 1 inch rings…. Makes all the difference!!

I am really pleased with this 270 Savage Axis II XP. It was a steal at $379.99 during the Christmas deals of 2021. It was close to dead on right out of the box. It's super light weight and hardly any kick.I will probably change to a higher powered scope because this Bushnell 3x9x32 doesn't quite have the strength I'll need when shooting passed the 100 yrd mark. But over all very satisfied with this rifle.

Savage.. known as a “ working man’s rifle” for years, also known by those who know quality workmanship and close tolerances know Savage rifles are extremely accurate because the way they are assembled. Other manufacturers now use the same “ lock nut” design that Savage started over 70 years ago. Axis ll XP, with accutrigger leading the way again. ...Read More Read more about review stating Savage Axis ll XP

Rifle is very nice. Well worth the purchase at this price point. Very low quality scope. Will replace the scope in the next few weeks.
