102 years and untold billions of rounds of .45ACP after its introduction, American shooters, law enforcement and elite military units the world over still rely on the immortal 1911 to get the job done. In the mid 1980s, the US military began the process of retiring their old warhorse. In 1985, Springfield Armory in Geneseo, Illinois first offered newly manufactured 1911s to the gun buying public. The next 28 years firmly established Springfield Armory as the leading manufacturer of 1911s, and the standard by which all other 1911s are judged today.

I carried a 1911 in the Army haveing one again felt great in hand . The Defender with the match grade barrel was right on target out of the box. Same feel as military. Like the 3-dot sights. Shot grouping was spot on.Liked the trigger pull . Would not expect any thing less from Springfield . I wish in came with night sights and a extra mag would b...Read More Read more about review stating I carried a 1911 in

My Springfield 1911 MIL-SPEC is absolutely the finest sidearm I've held, handled, and shot; when considering it's action, quality, style, and accuracy - inching out my EDC Sig P365 XL. And at $601, it couldn't be beat!

Springfield Armory's 1911 Defender is a no nonsense 1911 .45 ACP., but it has all the features to be your best friend. I have 4 Colt 1911's in various models, but are far more expensive. I really like shooting this pistol.

This is my first 1911 and I've found it to be hard to shoot accurately initially. Setting that aside, everything about the guns.com shopping experience has been excellent.

Have had this firearm for almost a month and it has worked great. Fired 400 rounds through it so far without a misfire. The action is smooth and am able to keep a tight grouping.

I’m not a huge fan of the parkerized finish, but I get that it’s a budget pistol. Ergonomics and feel are great. Good option to get something American made that you can build off of.

Everything you expect in a well-made 1911. It functioned with 230 ball, Remington Golden Sabre, Federal Hydroshock, and Hornady Critical Duty. FYI I did not run any +P ammo, as I believe that such ammo accellerates wear of the gun, but I have no doubt that it could have handled it. The gun was most accurate with Winchester 230 grain ball ...Read More Read more about review stating Everything you expect in a

Great quality, shoots smoothly. Sights are simple but affective. Just make sure to give it a cleaning out of the box and you'll have no trouble.

It’s really black not gray, more of an old fashion 1911 with no extras. Right white sights, brown grip and dull black color. Trigger was good but not as good as a $1400 Springfield 1911, it has a small creep then a wall and a pretty crisp break. For the money you can’t beat it, this is going to be my beater gun, I’ll keep the high end 1911 in the safe.

I added a Wilson Combat 188B slip in mag well speed shoot and VZ g10 grips plus Wilson Combat 8 round magazines. It shoots and point of impact amazingly accurate with superb double taps. Performs just as good as my buddies Springfield Armory Fully Loaded and I have a great price thanks to Palmetto State Armory with free shipping.

As someone mentioned previously it definitely looks more like the old fashion 1911. My only complaint is the rough edge on the bottom of the grip. Going to order new grip today. other than the grip its a good gun for the money.

I just received my pistol today. I have not fired it yet. This review is mainly to fill in the blanks on some questions I have seen here. The pistol comes in a cardboard box. On the outside of my box it is labeled as NOT being on CA DOJ ROSTER. (very cool in my book!!) My pistol does NOT have the ILS Safety built into the mainspring backstrap. (another plus in my book) I do not see any markings that specifically say MADE IN USA but right above the SR# is stamped SI GENESEO IL USA. I assume

Never got to use it. Sold me a gun I couldn’t own in communist California. Had to have it returned and my money refunded. Disappointed

Out of the box and 300+ rounds of 230gr. FMj down range not a hiccup. Purchased the tanker holster , for the price and quality makes a nice "ranch gun" keeps the wear off the colts and kimber.

Great Pistol! Need to oil it a little but for the most part the look, feel, and ergonomics of the gun are amazing. Even for a 1911. It gives you that old school 1911 feel too.

I have zero complaints about this pistol.I own several Springfield pistols and an M1Garand and M1A and this 1911 is just as awesome as my others.Everything is tight no flaws in the metal and performs as good as I thought it would. This isnt the model I have been wanting but for the price I wasnt passing it up especially the way things are with low stock available.

1911's are known for being picky about magazines and ammo that they work with. This one worked with every type of magazine and ammo I used with it. I liked it so much I ordered a spare.

An insane value. Forged frame, forged slide, forged SS match barrel and the machining tolerances make this feel like a million bucks. I love shooting it, and it's my most accurate pistol. Not picky with ammo or mags. I like the old school mil spec look. Say what you will about Springfield, seems like all manufacturers have made a bad call at some point. They're producing some great stuff these days....highly recommend.
