The round definitely drops deer. My buck was quartering slightly towards me. My shot hit right behind the shoulder in a downward trajectory. The bullet came apart as described tearing up the lungs. The downside is some of the fragments penetrated the diaphragm and entered the "gut" area. From now on square on or quartering away shots only.
