2 years agoI purchased this thinking it was good ammo ! After sighting in my new rifle I picked up the used cases from around my bench and found that about 40% of the cases were cracked at the neck area ! I am afraid to shoot the other 100 plus rounds I bought as I do not wish to harm my gun !

2 years agoI typically prefer Hornady HMR but with ammo getting hard to get I ordered the Winchester. I would say it's about 90% as good as the Hornady. Works well for my kids target shooting.

1 year agoI don't know where all the negative reviews are coming from. I do notice most are years old. I go a Savage A17 for Christmas. This is supposed to be a semi-auto that's very picky about it's ammo. Twice to the range so far. Barrel break-in procedures in process, (still having a blast shooting it though, GREAT gun). Have used this Winchester ammo, as well as Federal black box bulk, CCI TNT V-Max varmint, and Hornady V-Max. I haven't been able to find the CCI A17 ammo yet, supposedly made especially for the Savage, A17, .17 HMR. This Winchester performed equally as well as the Hornady for accuracy and reliability. At 50 and 100 yards, groups were equal. Not one misfire, not one jam, not one issue. Quarter sized groups at 100 yards. Tighter than the size of a squirrel's head. 200 rounds, at least, of each brand, type of ammo. Only one issue, the Federal black box had 1(one) stove pipe. This ammo cycled perfectly in a Savage A17. tighter accuracy than the Federal or CCI TNT V-Max Varmint. Same as the Hornady. Highly recommend. Don't believe the negative reviews, they'll steer you wrong. When available, (these days), garb as much as you can, I will.

1 year agoI've shot about 20 rounds and I've had no issues. Compared to some of the other reviews I saw for this ammo I have had none of the problems that some other people had.

1 year agoHaven't used any yet but if its like the same stuff that we've been shooting, it works fine. Price was as good as any and it was available.

1 year agoTerrible ammo. Many fail to fire. Multiple split casings. Using in a Savage A17 that shoots anything I put in it.

1 year agoFast rounds, but 2 (out of the box of 50) of the plastic tips were defective and were a couple inches off target at 50 yds. The other 48 rounds were fantastic.

1 year agoVery poor ammo, I could not get this ammo to load into the chamber from the magazine. When I inserted it into the chamber one at a time and closed the bolt it would not close smoothly. I had absolutely no problems with CCI, and Federal.

1 year agoI bought 500rds & the first 2 boxes averaged 8 out of 10 misfired. I bought the leading competitors & had 100% fired.

1 year agoI bought a pack of the varmint hv 17grain for them 17hmr an I had casings that were cracking An the tips where bent right out the pack. The gun is also brand new An shot different brands out if it with no problems at all.

1 year agoMy 22WMR Ruger American shot a a Six shot group at 100 yards at .648” with this stuff but I had 8 rounds that failed to fire out of 25. Not good. Brand new clean gun. My gun had zero fail to fires with several other manufacturer’s ammo tested. If Winchester could get their primers figured out it would be a great hunting round.

1 year agoAuto loading rifle shoots these fine Fairly consistent 1.5 at 70 yards. Clean burning powder. Explosive expansion.

1 year agoBest groups and best price. Shoots like a laser from my Marlin. I've tried all the other brands and grains and this is the mist consistent for me. Squirrels do not enjoy it. YMMV

1 year agoVery consistent ammunition, no squibs or hangfires. Clean burning and does the job on quarry out to 140m. Groups 12mm @ 100m.

1 year agoProfessionally I have tested the Varmit HV 30 gr. For the North American Arms mini revolvers, it is perfect. For any revolver handgun this round is your best bet for personal protection. This round is very fast and very deadly.

1 year ago.17 caliber Winchester ammo performs up to expectations. Former Air Force Bomber gunner expects ballistic accuracy. Great varmit rounds for knocking down ground squirrels ???? .

1 year agoI purchased a brick (500) of Winchester plus two boxes (100) of another brand after ordering my new .17 WSM. I started my new rifle sighting in at 35 yards within 11 rounds I was cutting a single hole group. I went to 100 yards, adjusted & groups were nearly half inch .530". I took a break then return producing my best 5 shot for the day, a .412" This is factory production Winchester 20 gr. ammo on my first day out and my new .17 Super Magnum rifle. My thoughts, this is great ammo and priced very well, this rifle love's it!

1 year agoWhen looking for 22 magnum ammo at Walmart they had the Winchester Varmint HV on clearance for $5.00 per 50 rounds so I bought all they had and went to C2 tactical in Scottsdale, Az. Shot 300 rounds with my Ruger precision 22 magnum with no issues.

1 year agoAccurate out of B mag. Shot a red squrriel at a little over 50 yards. Haven't missed a squrriel yet. It may be a bit too much for close squrriels. Sends them about 6ft horizontal before they start to fall from the tree.

1 year agoBelow is a copy/paste of the review I left on Cabela's website. But updated to add 6 more months of data and experience with this ammo, and my Savage A17. I don't know where all the negative reviews are coming from. I do notice most are years old. I got a Savage A17-heavy barrel, for Christmas. This is supposed to be a semi-auto that's very picky about it's ammo. Multiple trips to the range so far. Barrel break-in procedures now complete, (still having a blast shooting it, GREAT gun).
