After owning a 20 gauge Mossberg 500 Turkey for the past 5 years, I wanted to find a dedicated turkey gun that wouldn't break the bank, but was still similar in length and weight. There were two things I disliked about the Mossberg: 1) the forend rattle (anyone that has ever held or shot a Mossberg 500 knows what I'm talking about) and 2) the 24" ported barrel (the short, ported barrel combined with a ported turkey choke was DEAFENINGLY loud with turkey loads, even in 20 ga). I picked up the 3" SXP Hybrid Turkey, which has the same 24" barrel as the Mossberg (but isn't ported), and added the TruGlo Gobble Dot Xtreme adjustable sights and With a Carlson's Long Beard XR .665 choke and 3" Long Beard XR 1 3/4 oz #6 turkey loads, had a 50 yard pattern with 41 hits in the head and neck. I thought that was a fluke, so I shot another shell at 50 yards and had 36 hits in the head/neck. I do not shoot turkeys at that distance, but in my experience, most turkey chokes shoot pretty well out to 40 yards, but shoot them at 50 yards and you can see the better ones start to shine. That was exactly the case with this SXP. I shoot most of my turkeys inside of 30-35 yards, so the patterns with this gun at that range should be insane! If anyone is wondering, the receiver on the SXP Hybrid (at least the Cabela's/Bass Pro models) are NOT drilled and tapped. Prior to purchasing mine, I contacted Winchester and was told that ALL turkey models were, even the exclusive models, but that is not the case. It is still a great gun for the money! I love the inertia assisted pump and how little play there is in the forend! These may be imported from Turkey, but they still feel and function like a quality pump shotgun! I would recommend one to anyone looking for a solid, reasonably priced turkey gun.

Dropped a tom at 30 yards with this stock out of the box shotgun. Only 4 stars because the quality isn’t the best but it worked well and I don’t mind beating it up hiking through thick woods. For the price, I’d certainly recommend it.

Bought the SXP on a whim while at Cabela's looking for turkey loads for my 870, decided to use the SXP with longboard XR that outing and was not disappointed. Shot a nice Tom at about 40 yards. Patterned very well and the overall craftsmanship and operation of the SXP made me a happy hunter.

My son loves it, pretty accurate iron sites. The recoil pad absorbs pretty well. He will use it for spring season. Good looking camo pattern.

My husband loved it and was very pleased to find out he could order a different barrel (I think) for it to shoot deer.

The ultimate turkey gun . I read reviews on several competing models of turkey guns and chose this one from those reviews and articles written in various hunting magazines . Hunters chose this pump action for the quality and for the fact that the pump action on the SXP was much quieter for loading . That proved to be important while calling the birds in from a pop up blind. Other models I looked at Physically prior to my purchase were defiantly not nearly as quiet. I used the 3/12 inch turkey mixed shot 4/6/7 for a 25 yard shot on a Miriam drake and had no need for anther shot . The quietness of the SXP proved to be essential to bagging this Tom ; for sitting in a blind with 2 others ( one guide and one other shooter it was extremely important to inject a shell as discreetly as possible . This was my first Turkey hunt even though I’ve hunted for 60 years. With one shot I’m sure I made the right choice with the SXP.

Super happy with the gun, got it from my grandfather for my birthday and couldn’t be more excited to take a turkey with it.
