Small and fast. It’s all about having the right fit. And with a shorter length of pull and shorter barrel, the younger or smaller shooter can get the balance and stability that results in better shots. Value. The XPR is a new way to look at bolt action value. The XPR is a rugged, reliable and precise bolt-action rifle built for the next generation of Winchester hunters. Combining proven concepts from the model 70 with more efficient manufacturing processes means that the XPR is a superb hunting rifle at a more affordable price. Tough and accurate. If you’re looking for a more compact rifle that will stand up to the abuse you put yourself through in the field, the compact XPR is the rifle for you. The advanced polymer stock is built for superior grip in wet conditions and will stand up to the scratches and bumps you’re bound to encounter on the stalk or on the walk to the stand. The matte blued finish is tough and non-reflective. The detachable box magazine is a built in feature that is typically an expensive after-market addition, allowing you to keep extra shells in a spare mag instead of jingling loose in your pocket.
Features:
- MOA trigger system with zero take-up, zero creep and zero overtravel gives you outstanding accuracy
- Bolt unlock button allows the chamber to be unloaded with the thumb safety in the on safe position
- Nickel Teflon on the bolt body offers smoother operation and added corrosion resistance
- Detachable box magazine is a single stack design constructed from a rugged polymer for greater reliability
- Advanced polymer stock with textured panels help improve wet weather grip, the flattened forend profile improves stability from sandbags or a benchrest
- Shorter 13 inches length of pull on compact makes it perfect for younger shooters and those of smaller stature
- Perma-Cote matte finish on the barrel, receiver and bolt handle minimizes glare to help prevent game-spooking reflections and protects these parts from corrosion
- Inflex technology recoil pad directs energy down and away from your cheek to reduce “felt recoil”, the XPR compact is fitted with a plush Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad
- Steel recoil lug is inletted into the stock to prevent the receiver from twisting under recoil for more reliable and predictable long-range accuracy
- Receiver is machined from solid steel bar stock and through-hardened during heat treating for longer life and enhanced accuracy
- 2-position thumb safety and a cocking indicator show the XPR rifle’s safety status at a glance or by feel
- Button-rifled, free floated steel barrel is thermally stress-relieved then precisely aligned and headspaced during assembly via the barrel nut
- Recessed target crown protects the muzzle rifling from wear and impact damage to help maintain greater accuracy
- Action length – short action

2 years agoI just bought this rifle three weeks ago, after I read the review in a outdoors magazine. I bought a 270 win. and it does what they said is going to do, under 1 MOA with premium Ammunition at 100 yards. At 100 yards the average shot groups is .768 MOA with Hornady 150 gr. A 200 yards the average shot groups is 1.32 MOA with Hornady 150 gr. I am very happy with this rifle.

2 years agoDon't know what I'm supposed to do for a scope base for this thing. None in the box it came with, none for sale on the Winchester site, and none available on the Weaver scope base chart.

2 years agoShots great. After mounting a Nikon scope it was dead on at 100 yards after bore sighting and 4 shots to adjust scope. 1 inch groups. Mine came with the scope bases in the box, but for the other reviewer who did not get them Cabelas sells Redfield # 47513 bases that should fit. Reason for 4 stars is the stock seams to be some type of plastic and in my opinion is a little light for a .338 Win Mag. Don't really notice it when shooting and may be to reduce weight for carrying in the field.

1 year agoI love this rifle, I got it in the 300 wsm model and this thing shoots so flat. It didn't come with base and rings but you can get them online . Easy 5 start for me.

1 year agoBought this rifle after doing some research, most accurate rifle out of the box I've ever shot. With my loads less than 1/2 MOA with great velocity because of the 26'' barrel. One of the best triggers on a factory gun, no creep or backlash,3 1/4 # pull. Combined with Cabelas 4-16 Covenant FFP this will be my long range setup

1 year agoI am disappointed. I read all the reviews and was excited to purchase this rifle. I first ran into problems when I attempted to mount the scope bases; the spray coating process had filled one of the tapped holes and I had to order a special 8-40 tap set to clean the hole. A week later I had the scope installed with the wheeler install kit...required no lapping as the rings were perfectly aligned. I chose the winchester deer season xp 130gr. ammo to sight in the rifle. This is where I ran into the major problem; once the brass is fired; I can barely get the shell to eject (bending the rim of the case)...I cycled the same ammo though my sako 85 270 without issue. This xpr has been a total waste of time and money. I am going to send the rifle back to winchester and see if the chamber/bolt issue can be resolved.

1 year agoafter buying my 338 xpr Winchester mag i bought a 6-18x44 ao scope and ammo got it home unpacked everything got the scope on it and that is when i hit my problem this rifle really should come with a scope rail which i will get later to remount my scope that is the main reason i rated the rifle 4 stars as far as getting the scope zeroed in was real easy at 100 yds and my shot group was between .5" to.75" 3 shot grouping which to me with that caliber riffle really pleased me love the rifle not the scope mounts would recommend it for a beginner long range weapon

1 year agoI have owned my XPR in .270win for 4 months. I am fully satisfied that it has lived up to the manufacturer's and reviewers' claims of excellent accuracy and precision. The bolt action, cartridge feeding, and ejection required slow mechanical movement on my part for the first twenty to forty shots, with mechanisms smoothing out during this break-in period. By the end of the fourth box of cartridges all was smooth AND easy. I "zeroed" in the rifle in a handful of shots, and ALL the groupings were sub-MOA. I picked up my XPR at the Christiana, Delaware Cabela's, where they mounted my scope-mount and scope with pleasant and efficient service. I researched possible mounts for my scope prior to picking up this rifle. I chose a one-piece precision mounting system made by an American company which allowed for perfect alignment and no lapping required. I brought the scope and mount with me to the store. I hope that helps people to get the most out of their XPR with the least confusion on utilizing the pre-drilled mounting holes.

1 year agoBought this Winchester before Indiana gun season which now allows center fire rifles, zeroed in with just three shots at 100yards, shoots just under 1moa, this is in 308 , had a nice buck at 85 yards, took the shot ,pass through with 150 grain Winchester load, deer expired in bean field , after cking this was a double lung shot, exit wound just a little larger than a quarter , field dressed 194lbs, prefect load for Indiana deer would highly recommend this Winchester it is dead on

1 year agoI bought two of these on sale, one in 300 win mag and other in 30-06. I'm not the greatest shooter but I was getting 2-3" groups at 200 yds with the 300. Maybe with different ammo it will get better but this is plenty good for me. It's no model 70 but for the money it's a great rifle. This towards a previous review Boyd's does sell laminate stocks for the XPR but I haven't seen any others.

1 year agoWinchester XPR in 30.06. Picked this up from Cabela's with a factory mounted scope for a great price. The trigger is amazing, zero take-up, zero creep, zero overtravel is no lie. It's lightweight but with the pad it didn't kill my shoulder. It's a straight shooter, again with the outstanding trigger I was getting sub moa groups off my bag, I would say I'm just a fair shooter. The checkering is well done and feels really good. The detachable mag was a little bit of a concern for the field but the release is done well enough it hasn't given me any trouble. I also love the safety, the location for one thing is perfect but I like that I can leave the safety on and with the push of a button operate the bolt. Winchester did a great job on this rifle and then gave it a price that in my opinion makes it the best rifle anywhere close to it's price range..

1 year agoI purchased the rifle in 308 for hunting deer. Action was smooth to begin with but after firing about 40 rounds through it is downright impressive. The trigger is light and crisp. Much better than you will find in any other manufacturer at this price point and some higher Stock is comfortable and feels good in hand. The synthetic stock is light and will make a great hunting gun. Most importantly its a great shooter. No problems getting this thing to fire sub MOA as promised even with cheap ammo. I handled several other rifles at this price point and I feel the XPR is the best bang for your buck and then some.

1 year agoI have two XPRs, one in 270 and the other 300wsm, both are capable of sub moa accuracy. trigger breaks cleanly at 3.5 lbs, and the detachable mag feeds cleanly. Action is bit stuff out of the box, but smooths out nicely with use. Watch for the $100 off factory rebate that Winchester runs once a year and pick one up. I think the XPR is one of the more under-rated rifles out there.

1 year agoReading all the positive reviews and feed back on the internet, I had high hopes when I purchased in .308. On the positive side it does have a good trigger and while the barrel is supposed to be free floating the first thing I noticed on mine is the stock pressing against the side of the barrel. I also noticed the action screws were not tight. The manual states the torque specs for the screws so I tightened them to specifications but still had contact between the stock and barrel. I removed enough material from the side of the stock to have the barrel free float. However, after shooting and taking the action out of the stock there were marks on the barrel where the stock is hitting (there is a lot of flex in the stock). Needless to say the accuracy is erratic. No consistency at all. Given the recoil lug is part of the stock and not the barrel/receiver, I don't see glass bedding helping or an option. With all the positive reviews maybe I did get the occasional bad one (it's bound to happen). I've tried different ammo, multiple hand loads all with erratic results (with a 3 shot group sometimes the 1st is a flyer, sometimes the 2nd and sometimes the 3rd). I have other Winchester rifles/shotguns I'm happy with but given my experience with the XPR I can't recommend.

1 year agoI have this rile in 7/08 and accuracy has been disappointing, tried several reload combinations of bullets and powder and have never come up with anything but average accuracy, the stock seems to be more rigid than other brands in this price range but like the old saying goes only accurate rifles are interesting

1 year agoDear Winchester company, I own a variety of different guns made by multiple manufacturers and and would say that most of them give you more for your money than Winchester. Plastic stock is lighter than most, scope mounts not included and the Styrofoam packaging falls apart in very small pieces and get stuck everywhere. With all this b...Read More Read more about review stating Expected more
